Berlingo Lambda Sensor Fault

Thanks for the quick response. I hadn't thought about fuel consumption, but now that you mention it, I think you're right. I've had to fill up more often recently. Is there any way to check the lambda sensor, or is it best left to a professional?

Given the symptoms and increased fuel consumption, the lambda sensor is highly suspect. While some basic tests can be performed, like checking the wiring, it's generally best to have it diagnosed by a workshop. They can use diagnostic tools to read the sensor's output and confirm if it is faulty. They will also be able to check for other problems. It's safer to get it checked out.

Understood, I appreciate the advice. I took the Berlingo to a local garage, and after diagnosis, the lambda sensor was defective. The repair, including the new sensor and labour, came to 375€. The car is now running smoothly again. Thank you!

It certainly sounds like something is wrong. The check engine light, rough running, exhaust leak, and smell all point to an issue in the exhaust system. The lambda sensor, also known as an oxygen sensor, is a possibility. It measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gases to help regulate the air-fuel mixture. A defective sensor can cause these symptoms. Is your fuel consumption higher than usual?
