Berlingo Overheating

I'm having trouble with my 2005 Citroen Berlingo diesel. The engine is overheating, and it takes longer to reach its normal operating temperature. It currently has 84159 km on the clock. I suspect a faulty thermostat cooling circuit motor, and I'm initially pointing to the map thermostat. Has anyone else encountered a similar issue?

I have a Berlingo too, though I am not sure about the year. I had almost exactly the same symptoms a while ago. Check the temperature sensor first; it's a cheaper fix if that's the problem. But yes, it does sound like the thermostat. Is your coolant level okay?

Thank you for the insight. The coolant level is within the specified range. Could you provide more details about the symptoms you experienced before replacing the thermostat? I want to be certain before proceeding.

Okay, so the coolant is fine, that rules out leaks at least. Before I got it fixed, my Berlingo was running really hot, especially on longer trips. The engine temp gauge was almost in the red zone sometimes, and in town it never really warmed up properly. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop, just to be safe.

I appreciate the advice; I will take it to a workshop for a comprehensive diagnosis. Based on your experience and the mechanic's opinion, it seems likely that the thermostat is indeed the culprit. Thank you again for your help. I will post the final outcome. It was indeed the thermostat. Repair cost: 350€
