Bipper Preheating Lamp Issue

I'm having a head-scratcher with my 2013 Peugeot Bipper diesel. The preheating lamp refuses to switch off, and the check engine light is on. It's clocked 63871 km. To top it off, it's blowing smoke when I put my foot down. My gut tells me it's the glow control unit. Could it be a defective cable or plug connection? I did a quick scan and that’s what it looks like but man, I hate electrical gremlins!

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a defective glow control unit. Have you performed a diagnostic test to confirm the error code? Problems with the heating element can trigger the engine light. Also, is the smoke present only during acceleration, or is it constant? This detail can help determine the source of the fault.

Yes, I ran a diagnostic and it flagged the glow control unit. The smoke is mostly when accelerating, especially from a cold start. Could a dodgy connection really cause all this, or am I barking up the wrong tree? I mean, I’ve seen stranger things happen...

A faulty connection is indeed a plausible cause, given the symptoms and diagnostic code. However, given the complexity of modern diesel engine management systems, a more thorough inspection is advisable. It may be prudent to take the vehicle to a workshop for professional assessment.

Took it to a local garage as you suggested. Turns out it was indeed a corroded connector on the glow control unit. They cleaned it up, replaced a dodgy section of cable, and cleared the codes. Total cost was 95€. Runs like a dream now!
