Black smoke and bumpy running: tips wanted for 2012 Opel Mokka gasoline engine

Hey guys, I'm having some problems with my 2012 Opel Mokka petrol with 123253km on the clock. I can see black smoke coming out of the exhaust when accelerating, the check engine light is constantly on and the engine is doing really strange things - it just shuts off, runs really rough, jerks when accelerating. It also guzzles a lot of fuel, the exhaust smells pretty bad and it just dies off at idle. I have a suspicion that something is wrong with the low-pressure fuel system. Have any of you ever had a similar problem and can tell me how it was solved at your garage? My last experience with the mechanic wasn't the best, so I'd be really grateful for any tips!

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Opel Mokka with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues such as black smoke from the exhaust, rough running, engine shutdowns, and high fuel consumption. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the low-pressure fuel system. A similar case involved incorrect software values for the fuel pump, which, when corrected, resolved the issues. It is recommended to check and adjust the fuel pump software values to potentially fix the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey buddy, I had similar symptoms on my 2015 Opel Insignia. It ran almost the same distance as your Mokka and behaved really dissimilarly. It was actually a problem with the low pressure fuel system. The guys at the garage discovered that the software values for my fuel pump were completely wrong. They had to correct the values and after that the pump was back in tune and the car was running smoothly again. It was a pretty serious issue as it massively affected fuel consumption and performance. So get ready for quite a repair, buddy! Hope this helps you out.

Hey, thanks for your help and info! That sounds pretty much like my problem with the Mokka. Do you happen to remember how much the repair cost you? And have you had any other problems since then or was it all fixed and your car has been running smoothly ever since? I'd be really interested to know if there's anything else coming up.

Hey, no problem at all, always happy to help! In my case, it was €45 to correct these incorrect software values for the fuel pump. Thank God I haven't had any more problems with the low-pressure fuel system since then. The fault was rectified by the mechanic and my car has been running like clockwork ever since! But every car is different, so keep that in mind, buddy. Hope it goes just as smoothly for you!

Wow, that's really good news! 45 € sounds like a fair price at first. I hope my mechanic will find and fix the fault as quickly as I did. A big thank you for your helpful info and tips, buddy. Really put my mind at ease a bit. Really hope my Mokka runs like clockwork then, yeah! I'm relying on that now and hoping for the best!
