Black smoke and engine failure in Citroen C1 from 2015: looking for advice and experience
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Citroen C1 is experiencing black smoke from the exhaust, engine stalling, loss of power, a strong exhaust smell, and increased fuel consumption. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the fuel mixture, possibly due to a faulty cable or connector regulating the gasoline and air mixture. Immediate attention is recommended to prevent further engine damage, and a similar issue was resolved by replacing the faulty part, leading to normal vehicle operation.

Hey, thanks for your reply. Honestly this scares me a bit, but it totally sounds like what I'm going through. Do you remember how much you ended up paying for the repair? And have you had any other problems with your C3 since then?

Hey, I totally understand your worries. But don't panic! I can reassure you - since then the error in the fuel composition has been rectified and there have been no further problems with my C3. So somehow the trip to the mechanic really helped! First of all, I had to fork out €95 to repair the broken cable/plug, but after that everything ran like clockwork again. From that point of view, you'd better get it checked quickly before it gets even more expensive. Good luck with it and keep us up to date!

Hey, thanks for the encouragement and the info! That sounds a lot better than I expected. 95€ for the repair is really not bad, considering that my C1 could run normally again afterwards. I'll take it to the mechanic tomorrow morning and hopefully the problem can be fixed quickly. I'll get back to you as soon as I know more. Fingers crossed and thanks again for your help!

Hey, sounds pretty much like the problem I recently had with my 2012 Citroen C3. I had a faulty cable/connector that regulates the mixture of gasoline and air. Caused very similar symptoms - black smoke, check engine light, bad smell and spontaneous engine stalling. It was a serious problem that required immediate attention, mainly because it could damage the engine and various other components if not fixed. It took the mechanic a while to find the exact fault, but once he had identified it, replacing the faulty part was relatively straightforward. Although it was quite a bump, I'm glad I got it sorted. My C3 is now running like clockwork again, so I'd definitely recommend getting that checked immediately. Hope this helps!
