Black smoke and increased fuel consumption in Skoda Kamiq Diesel - Possible causes and solutions
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Skoda Kamiq Diesel is experiencing black smoke during acceleration, a check engine light, rough engine performance, and increased fuel consumption. The suspected cause is a malfunctioning differential pressure sensor on the diesel particulate filter, leading to improper filter regeneration. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the sensor and regenerating the filter, which restored normal engine performance and fuel efficiency. It is recommended to have a mechanic inspect and address the problem.

Hey, thanks for your reply. So it was actually the differential pressure sensor in your case, sometimes you should listen to your gut feeling, it seems. It's good to know that you were able to solve the problem, from your description it wasn't exactly a walk in the park. Do you remember how much it cost you to replace the sensor, including the complete regeneration of the particulate filter? And have there been any other problems since then, or is your Superb now running smoothly again? Thanks again and best regards

Hey, sure, I still remember the costs. I paid around €250 to replace the defective exhaust back pressure sensor, including the complete regeneration of the particulate filter. Since then, the problem with the differential pressure of the diesel particulate filter is fortunately history. My Superb is now running like clockwork again and there have been no more problems since then. So, no black smoke and the fuel consumption is also back to normal. So, I would recommend that you have a mechanic look at it. It's probably the same problem, and if you fix it, your Kamiq will certainly run smoothly again. Best regards!

Hey, great, that helps me a lot, thanks! I will definitely visit a mechanic and hope that the problem will then be solved for good. It's great that your Superb is running smoothly again, it's always annoying when you have to worry about things like that. That's what the garage is for, you'd think. I'm also really glad that the costs for replacing the sensor and regenerating the particulate filter are reasonable. I was afraid it would cost me a small fortune. Thanks again for your help and advice - much appreciated! I'll let you know how it goes. Until then, I wish you all the best and no more car problems! Best regards

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2016 Skoda Superb Diesel. I also had black smoke and the check engine light came on, just like your Kamiq. It was definitely a serious problem. The mechanic I went to found that the differential pressure sensor on the diesel particulate filter was faulty, which was causing the filter to regenerate irregularly. The sensor had not correctly detected how full the filter was and therefore the regeneration was not working correctly. As a result, engine performance deteriorated and fuel consumption increased. In my case, the solution was to replace the sensor and completely regenerate the particulate filter. Hope that helps you. By the way, it was quite a challenge to find and fix this problem. Regards
