Black smoke and loss of power in 2006 VW Caddy: Possible causes and solutions
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2006 VW Caddy Diesel is experiencing black smoke, loss of power, uneven engine performance, jerking during acceleration, and a constant check engine light. These symptoms, along with a loud hissing noise and stalling at idle, suggest potential issues with the boost pressure regulator or the turbocharger. A similar case with a VW Passat involved diagnosing faults in the intake tract and turbocharger, leading to repairs that resolved the issues. It is recommended to have the vehicle checked by a mechanic to address these problems effectively.

Hey, thanks for your feedback! Seems like our Caddy has the same quirks as your Passat back then. Do you remember how much you had to fork out for the whole repair? And has your car had any further problems since the repair or did everything go smoothly afterwards? I would be delighted to hear your answer!

Hey, after my visit to the workshop, the malfunction of the boost pressure regulator in my car was fixed and everything has been running smoothly ever since. The mechanical damage to the turbocharger was a bit more expensive though, I had to fork out €1070. But hey, since then my Passat has been like a new car, so the repair was definitely worth it. If you have similar problems, I would definitely recommend having it checked. It really helped me and although the price was a bit hefty, it was definitely worth it! Hope this helps you!

Hey, €1070 is quite a lot of money, but if it helps the car to run like clockwork again, then I probably won't be able to avoid it. I'll take my Caddy to the garage and have it checked. Hopefully I'll be as lucky as you and my car will run smoothly again after the repair. Thank you very much for your help and advice!

Hello, I can't find what the turbocharger boost pressure control position sensor is! Is it the boost pressure sensor or at the turbo level? Thank you

Hello, I can't find what the turbocharger boost pressure control position sensor is! Is it the boost pressure sensor or at the turbo level? Thank you
The turbocharger boost pressure control position sensor is typically located at the turbocharger level. It monitors the position of the turbocharger's wastegate or variable geometry mechanism to ensure proper boost pressure control. If you're having trouble locating it, check near the turbocharger assembly for any sensors or wiring connected to it. If you need further assistance, feel free to ask!

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2009 VW Passat. The last time I was at the garage, they had to run extensive diagnostics on my car. Several faults came to light, clustered around the intake tract and the turbocharger itself, which could explain the black smoke. This also included the defective boost pressure regulator and some minor defects that match the symptoms you described, such as the jerky engine running and this whistling when accelerating. Unfortunately, the mechanic said it was a serious problem and I had to wait a while for the repair. Hope this helps you!
