Black smoke and loss of power in Audi A3 Diesel 2015: experience sought with loaded diesel particulate filter

Hey guys! I have a 2015 Audi A3 diesel with 110123 km on the odometer. Recently I have black smoke coming out of the exhaust when accelerating, the engine light is flashing, I can feel a loss of power and the DPF seems to be really loaded. Something also smells quite strongly of exhaust fumes. I wasn't exactly thrilled the last time I went to the mechanic, so I'm turning to you guys. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms and can share experiences, especially with charging the diesel particulate filter? Looking forward to your opinions!

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Audi A3 diesel is experiencing black smoke, loss of power, a flashing engine light, and a strong exhaust smell, likely due to a loaded diesel particulate filter (DPF). A similar issue was resolved by replacing the DPF, as it was defective and could not be regenerated. The suggested solution is to replace the DPF to restore the vehicle's performance.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I have a 2013 Audi A5 diesel and I had exactly the same problem with my car. Black smoke, annoying flashing lights and then that pungent smell! The doc said my diesel particulate filter (DPF) was defective due to my car's high mileage. To be honest, it was a serious problem. The filter had to be completely replaced as it could no longer be regenerated. It was a bit time consuming, but in the end my Audi was whole and healthy. Hope this helps you a little. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your reply! It's reassuring to hear that someone else has also experienced the same problem. If you can remember, how much did it cost you to replace the diesel particulate filter? And since you replaced the filter, has any other trouble arisen with your car? Any advice appreciated!

Hey, I'm glad if I could help! The repair set me back €1550. Pretty expensive fun, I tell you! But since the repair, the diesel particulate filter is no longer a problem when heavily loaded. And no, luckily nothing has cropped up since then. Everything is running like clockwork again. So, don't worry, if you sort it out, your Audi should be like new again. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet, right? Good luck with it!

Wow, that's a pretty hefty amount! But if it helps in the end, then it's certainly worth it. You're right, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. I'm relieved to hear that your car has been running well since then, that gives me hope. I'll probably take my A3 to the mechanic and get the filter replaced. Thanks for your help!
