Black smoke and loss of power in Citroen C6 petrol engine: looking for advice and experience

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2009 Citroen C6 gasoline engine and hope you can help. Its mileage is 50731 km. There is black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light is on, it takes longer to start when cold, loss of power, jerking when accelerating, high fuel consumption and the exhaust stinks. I think it could be a malfunction of the fuel pressure sensor. Have any of you had similar experiences and can you say anything about the cost of treatment and the time it takes at the garage? My last experience with the mechanic wasn't that great, so I'd like to get some opinions before I go back. Thanks in advance! Regards!

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Citroen C6 with a gasoline engine is experiencing black smoke during acceleration, a check engine light, delayed cold starts, power loss, jerking, high fuel consumption, and a foul exhaust smell. The owner suspects a malfunctioning fuel pressure sensor. A similar issue in a Citroen C3 was resolved by repairing defective cable connections, which improved engine performance and turned off the check engine light. The suggested solution is to check and possibly repair the cable connections, as it could be a cost-effective fix.

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2012 Citroen C3. However, it was not the fuel pressure sensor, but actually the cable connections were defective. I had similar symptoms - high fuel consumption, jerking when accelerating and the constantly illuminated check engine. I went to the garage and the mechanic replaced the cable connections. This not only improved the engine running, but the check engine light was also off again. It was definitely a serious matter and not a simple fix. Hope this helps you. Have a good trip! Best regards!

Hello, thank you for the quick reply. Interesting that it was the cable connections in your case! Do you happen to remember how much you paid for the repair and how long your car was in the workshop? Have any other problems arisen since then? Thank you and best wishes!

Hi, sure, no problem, I still remember the repair well! I paid €155 to have the defective cable connections repaired. My C3 was in the workshop for about a day for the whole thing. Immediately afterwards, the malfunction of the fuel pressure sensor was history, and since the visit to the mechanic, everything has been running like clockwork again. No new problem since then. I hope this helps you and wish you a carefree drive with your C6! Best regards!

Hello, thank you very much for the useful and insightful information! That sounds much more encouraging than my previous experience. It's reassuring to know that the problem could be solved and the cost is much lower than expected. I will take my C6 to the garage tomorrow and have the cable connections checked. Wonderful that your C3 has had no further problems! That's the best case scenario I can hope for! Thanks for your help and good wishes. Have a pleasant journey too! Best regards!
