Black smoke and loss of power in the 2008 Renault Twingo: Possible fault in the mixture control?
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Renault Twingo is experiencing black smoke, loss of power, prolonged cold starts, increased fuel consumption, and a strong exhaust smell, suggesting a possible fault in the mixture control, likely due to a rich fuel mixture. A similar issue in a different vehicle was resolved by replacing the fuel pressure regulator, which controls the fuel injected into the engine. This solution effectively addressed the symptoms, and it is recommended to check the fuel pressure regulator as a potential cause.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and the helpful information! Hadn't thought about the fuel pressure regulator before, but it sounds pretty logical. Can you remember how much you paid for the repair? Has anything else caused you problems since then or did everything go smoothly? Thank you and have a nice day!

Hi, yes, of course, the repair to the fuel pressure regulator cost me €250. Since then, my Benz has been running like clockwork again, just as it should. So no more worries about the mixture control, since the visit to the mechanic the fault in the mixture control has been rectified (mixture was too rich). Since then everything has been fine, no other problems have arisen. Runs like a Swiss watch! Good luck with your Twingo, hopefully it won't be too expensive! Have a nice day! All the best!

Hey, thanks for the info! 250 sounds acceptable if the car runs properly again afterwards. I'm reassured to know that the problem has since been solved. I will now make an appointment with my mechanic and hope that he can fix the problem just as well. Thank you for your help and advice. Have a great day too and stay healthy! Take care!

Hello, Well, I can tell you that I had a similar experience with my 2011 Mercedes C-Class. In my car, it was the fuel pressure regulator that was faulty. It's a somewhat specific thing, but your symptoms also point to it. Long cold starts, black smoke, increased fuel consumption are all signs of this. At the workshop, they then replaced the fuel pressure regulator, i.e. completely rebuilt it. This part regulates the amount of fuel that is injected into the engine, and if it's broken, it can lead to all these symptoms. It was already a serious problem, but thankfully nothing they couldn't fix. I hope this helps you! Check it out and let me know how it went. All the best!
