Black smoke and loss of power in the Toyota GT86 - Possible causes and solutions

Hi everyone, I drive a 2016 Toyota GT86 with gasoline engine and already some kilometers on the speedometer (279524 km). I've been having some problems with the car recently: black smoke when accelerating, check engine light on, engine just cuts out, loss of power, jerky driving, miserable consumption and a strong exhaust smell. The thing even cuts out at idle. I suspect that it could be the fuel pressure regulator. Have any of you had similar experiences and can tell me how it went at the mechanic? Hi, I recently had a similar problem with my 2013 Toyota GT86. In my case it was the fuel filter that needed replacing. Black smoke, engine stalling, poor fuel economy, the whole nine yards... just like yours. The symptoms all came after changing the fuel filter. It had somehow caused my car to go into emergency running mode. So I went back to the garage and raised the issue. The mechanic then recognized the fault and corrected the installation of the fuel filter. It wasn't a difficult problem to solve, but it took me a while to figure out what the problem might be in your case. So I would advise you to take it up with your mechanic and check that the fuel filter has been fitted correctly. It could also be a faulty pump or a blocked valve. Since the mechanic took care of it, the fault with the fuel pressure regulator was fixed and I haven't had any more similar problems. So it seems to have been the final fix.
