BMAX check engine light and fuel consumption

Hi, I have a 2016 Ford BMAX diesel, and the check engine light keeps popping up. I've noticed reduced engine power and the fuel consumption seems higher than usual. My BMAX has almost 200000 km (196752 to be exact). Any ideas? Could it be the temperature sensor? I have read something about a faulty exhaust temperature sensor.

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my BMAX. Same symptoms: check engine light, less power, and drinking fuel like crazy. Check for exhaust leaks first. That was the culprit in my case. Is the engine management system showing any specific error codes?

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly should I be looking for these exhaust leaks? And how can I spot them? Is there a specific spot in the exhaust system where they commonly occur?

Honestly, unless you're really familiar with exhaust systems, it's tough to pinpoint the leak yourself. It could be anywhere from the manifold to the back box. If you suspect it, get it to a workshop. In my case, it was a tiny crack near the temperature sensor, causing it to give faulty readings. New sensor and exhaust repair cost me about 265€.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. It was a faulty exhaust temperature sensor due to a small leak. They fixed the leak and replaced the sensor. Runs like new again!
