BMAX power steering issue

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say check the cable and plug connections, are there any specific areas I should focus on? I'm familiar with basic diagnostics, but I'm not sure where the EPS unit is located on the BMAX or if there are common weak points in the wiring harness that I should inspect first.

Okay, so on the BMAX, the EPS unit is typically integrated with the steering column, usually behind the dashboard. I'd advise against dismantling the dashboard yourself if you aren't experienced. Given that you're experiencing failure, and there's a stored code, it may be best to go to the workshop. I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear. Focus on the connections that are easily accessible without major disassembly. Check for any obvious signs of corrosion or damage. However, the error code suggests a deeper issue that might require specialized tools to diagnose properly.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to my local workshop, and they confirmed it was a defective cable/plug connection to the EPS. They cleaned it up, secured it properly, and cleared the error code. The total cost was 95€, which I was happy to pay. The steering is now back to normal!

Sounds like a potential headache with the electric power steering (EPS) system. 'Spongy' handling often indicates issues within the steering column itself, or even the steering system's electronic control unit. The vibration could point to inconsistent power assist from the steering pump, which, in your case, is part of the EPS assembly. Since you mention a stored error, it's definitely registering a fault. Have you checked the cable and plug connections to the EPS unit? A loose or corroded connection can cause all sorts of weird symptoms.
