Hi all! My 2019 BMW 1 with gasoline engine suddenly went into limp mode. The warning light came on and the error is now stored in the system. I suspect it might be the engine oil temperature sensor, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone encountered similar symptoms and had them fixed? Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW 2 Series last year. I've got some experience working on cars, but mostly basic maintenance stuff. Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm at 102352 KM and just had my service done recently. I've actually started noticing the idle being a bit rougher than usual for the past week or so, but didn't think much of it until this happened. No real changes in fuel consumption that I've spotted though. Did your mechanic mention if this is a common issue with BMWs? I'm wondering if I should take it to the dealer or if a regular workshop would be able to handle this. Just want to make sure I don't spend more than necessary while still getting it fixed properly.

Hey again! Yeah, after seeing your mileage and hearing about the rough idle, it definitely sounds similar to what I experienced! That's actually really interesting because my issue started showing up right around the 100,000 km mark too. From what my mechanic told me (and I've learned a bit since then), this is actually a fairly common issue with these BMWs. The wiring harness connection can get a bit loose over time, especially with all the engine vibration. I initially thought about taking it to the dealer too, but my regular workshop handled it perfectly fine. They have the right diagnostic tools for BMWs, and honestly, it's not a super complicated fix. The dealer would've probably charged triple what I paid, at least! One thing I learned from my experience, while the sensor itself can go bad, it's worth checking the connections first. My mechanic showed me how the connector was slightly corroded too, which contributed to the poor connection. They cleaned it up while they were at it. I've decided to take your advice and booked it in with a well-reviewed independent workshop that specializes in European cars. They're going to check it out tomorrow morning. The rough idle combined with what you've shared about the similar mileage when your problem occurred really makes me think we might be dealing with the same issue. I actually called them already and mentioned the possibility of a loose connection or corroded connector in the wiring harness. They seemed to know exactly what I was talking about, which is reassuring! Said they'd check that first before looking at replacing any sensors. I'll update the thread once I get it sorted out.
