BMW 1 Series Seat Adjustment System Not Working

Hi all! My 2011 BMW 1 series has some electrical issues with the seat adjustment system. The seats won't adjust with the ignition on or when starting the engine. Even the saved driver profiles only activate after engine start. I suspect it might be related to the passenger seat electrics, and the car's showing an error code. Has anyone dealt with similar seat adjustment problems? Would be great to hear what the actual issue was and how your workshop resolved it. Looking forward to your suggestions! Thanks in advance

Hey there! I've had some experience with cars and faced a similar issue with my 2013 BMW 3 series. The electronic seats completely stopped working, and those memory settings wouldn't kick in either. Super frustrating! Turned out my battery was severely discharged and needed replacement. The workshop diagnosed it pretty quickly, apparently, when the battery's dying, the car starts cutting power to non-essential functions first, and seat controls are one of them. Got it sorted with a new battery, and everything went back to normal. The whole thing cost me around 290 Euro. Before I can help more specifically, could you tell me if you're getting any other electrical issues? Like dimming lights, slow starter motor, or unusual warning lights? Also, what's the error code you're getting? Would help narrow things down. If you're driving the 1 series (nice car btw), electrical issues can be pretty similar across the BMW range. I've also owned a 2 series, so I'm familiar with how these systems work.

Thanks for your input! My car's been serviced regularly (last one at 61005 KM), but this issue just popped up recently. Actually, I'm not experiencing any other electrical problems, the battery seems fine, starter works great, and no dimming lights. It's really just isolated to the seat adjustment system. The error code is P1A23, which specifically points to the seat module from what I understand. I'm thinking it might be the seat control module itself rather than a power issue, but I wanted to check if others had similar experiences before heading to the workshop. Did your battery issues show any warning lights before the seats stopped working? Really appreciate the detailed response. It's helpful to know what worked in your case, even if our issues might be different.

Oh, that's interesting about the P1A23 code! You're right, our issues do seem different. When I had my battery problem, there were definitely warning signs before the seats stopped working. My dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree! In my case with the 3 series, I started noticing the battery warning light first, then various electrical gremlins started showing up. But since you're not seeing any other electrical issues, I'm starting to think I might've jumped the gun suggesting it was battery-related. Come to think of it, my 's 3 series had a similar isolated seat module issue last year. His control module ended up being the culprit, apparently, some moisture had gotten in and corroded the connections. Cost him about 400 Euro to replace, but at least it fixed the problem completely. With that error code and the isolated nature of your issue, I'd bet you're right about the seat control module. Have you noticed any unusual noises when trying to adjust the seat? Or does it just not respond at all? In my 's case, there was a slight clicking sound before it completely failed. Let us know what the workshop says. I'm really curious to hear what they find!

Thanks for that detailed info! After reading about your 's experience, I'm even more convinced it's the seat control module. No clicking sounds in my case, the seats are completely unresponsive, which matches what you described about your 's situation. You know, it's actually a relief to hear that these module issues aren't uncommon in BMWs. I was worried it might be something more serious affecting the whole electrical system, but since everything else is working perfectly, I'm feeling better about it just being an isolated module problem. I've booked the car in at the workshop for next week, and I'll definitely let everyone know what they find. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences, it's super helpful to go in with some knowledge about what the issue might be. At least I won't be completely surprised if they tell me the module needs replacing! Fingers crossed it's a straightforward fix like your 's case. Even if it costs around 400 Euro, I'd rather get it sorted properly than keep dealing with unresponsive seats!
