Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to hear from someone who went through something similar. The two-day timeline gives me a good idea of what to expect. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole thing? And has everything been working smoothly since the repair? I'm trying to figure out if this is going to be a one-time fix or if I should expect more issues down the road.

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! So yeah, after seeing your message, I wanted to update you, I actually got really lucky with my repair. Since my issue turned out to be just a coding problem and didn't need any motor replacement like I initially thought, it was much cheaper than expected. Only paid 75 € for the coding work, which honestly was a relief! The best part? Everything's been working perfectly since then. The sunroof's been operating smoothly for months now, no more error messages, no more stuck sunblind. The "Sunroof not initialized" warning disappeared completely after they sorted out the coding. I know I probably scared you a bit in my first message talking about motor replacements and two-day repairs, but your issue might be similarly simple. My advice would still be to get it checked by someone who knows their way around BMW coding, just don't assume the worst straight away like I did! Sometimes these things turn out to be much simpler than we expect. Let me know how it goes when you get it looked at!

Thanks so much for the follow-up! Just wanted to let you know I finally got my car checked out. Funny enough, my experience was completely different from yours. Took it to a certified BMW shop and turns out the issue was more complex. The mechanism had a broken cable and the motor was starting to fail. The whole repair ended up taking three days and cost quite a bit more than your coding fix, about 900 bucks total. But honestly, I'm just glad it's sorted now. The convertible top works perfectly, no more error messages, and the sunblind moves smoothly. The mechanic I found was actually fantastic, really took the time to explain everything and even showed me the worn-out parts. Such a different experience from my last sketchy mechanic! They also did a full system check while they had it, which gave me peace of mind. Guess these things really vary case by case. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me understand what I might be dealing with. Time to enjoy some open-top driving!

Hey! I've got a 2017 BMW 3 Series diesel and had a similar headache last season. The sunroof system completely stopped responding, showing the same error message. Turned out it wasn't just a mechanical issue, the control module needed reprogramming and one of the motors had to be replaced. Took it to the dealership service center since it involved coding work. They had to recalibrate the entire system and run a full diagnostic. The motor replacement was definitely necessary as it had worn out. It wasn't a quick fix, had my car in the shop for two days. The coding part was crucial because the system needed proper initialization to work with the new motor. Just replacing parts wouldn't have solved it. While it was a serious repair that needed specialized BMW diagnostic equipment, it wasn't something that affected the car's core functionality. If you're seeing that error message, don't force the roof, could cause more damage. Best get it checked by someone who can actually do BMW coding work.
