BMW 2 Series Diesel Power Loss, IAT Sensor Issue?

Hi all! My 2021 BMW 2 diesel has started acting up. The engine light is on, power output has dropped significantly, and there's an error code stored. I suspect it might be related to the intake air temperature sensor. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? Interested in hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be.

I had a very similar issue with my 2019 BMW 3 Series diesel last year. With some basic car repair experience, I initially tried diagnosing it myself but ended up taking it to my trusted workshop when the engine light stayed on and the power kept dropping. Turned out you're spot on, it was indeed the intake air temperature sensor. The repair was straightforward, and I paid around 155 Euro for parts and labor. The symptoms were exactly like what you're describing. Before I share more specific details about the repair process, could you tell me which engine variant you have in your 2 Series and if you're getting any specific error codes? This would help me provide more relevant info from my experience. Take care.

Thanks for your input! Had my last service just 2 months ago at 59047 KM and everything was perfect then. I've got the B47 engine variant. The error code I'm getting is P0113, which from what I understand points to the intake air temp sensor circuit being high. It's a bit frustrating since the car has been running flawlessly until now. Did your power output return to normal immediately after the sensor replacement? Also wondering if you experienced any other symptoms I should watch out for?

Wow, that's exactly the same error code I got with my BMW! Yes, I can totally relate to your frustration, these things always seem to happen right after a service, don't they? To answer your questions, yes, the power came back immediately after the sensor replacement. It was like flipping a switch; the car felt normal again as soon as I started it up after the repair. The sluggish acceleration was gone, and the engine light cleared up right away. In my case, I did notice a few other minor symptoms before the main issues appeared. The idle was slightly rougher than usual, and fuel consumption went up a bit. But honestly, these were so subtle I probably wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't paying close attention. Quick tip from my experience, while they're replacing the sensor, have them check the wiring harness too. In my case, there was some minor corrosion on the connector that they cleaned up. Could've potentially caused problems down the line. The B47 is a solid engine, and this is usually just a one-off issue. I've put another 25000 km on mine since the repair without any problems. Let me know how the repair goes, should be a pretty straightforward fix!

Thanks a lot for the detailed response! That's really reassuring to hear, especially about the immediate power recovery after the fix. I hadn't noticed the rough idle, but now that you mention it, I think my fuel consumption has gone up slightly over the past week. I'll definitely get them to check the wiring harness, that's a great tip. I've booked the car in for tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed it'll be a simple fix like yours was. It's good to know you haven't had any issues since then. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I'll probably be back to normal driving by tomorrow afternoon!
