BMW 2 Series Diesel: Rough Idle & Vibration Troubles?
Summary of the thread
A 2022 BMW 2 Series diesel is experiencing rough idling and increased vibrations, with error codes P0015 and P0016 indicating potential camshaft positioning issues. Possible causes include a faulty engine mount, low oil pressure, or timing chain problems. Suggested solutions involve checking the wiring harness connections, especially near engine mount sensors, and considering mechanical issues related to camshaft positioning. An upcoming workshop appointment will address both electrical and mechanical aspects to resolve the problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My last service was just 2 months ago at 62589 KM, and the vibrations seem most noticeable when idling or at low speeds. I'm getting error code P0015 and P0016, which according to my OBD reader are related to camshaft positioning. Your wiring harness issue sounds interesting, I'll definitely have that checked out. Did you notice any particular sounds along with the vibrations in your case? I'm trying to gather as much info as possible before heading to the workshop.

Hey again! Thanks for providing those details about your BMW. Yes, actually those error codes (P0015 and P0016) are quite different from what I experienced with my 4 Series. While my issue was just a loose wiring connection, those camshaft position codes you're getting could point to something a bit more complex. In my case, I mainly had the vibrations without any specific sounds. But I've learned since then that camshaft position issues can sometimes make a slight ticking noise, especially during cold starts. Did you notice anything like that? Actually, after dealing with my wiring issue, I had a chat with my mechanic about similar symptoms in other BMWs. He mentioned that camshaft position problems could be caused by several things, from low oil pressure to timing chain issues. Since your car is still pretty new with relatively low mileage, I'd definitely get it checked soon to prevent any potential damage. Have you noticed if the vibrations change when the engine warms up? In my case, the vibrations were pretty consistent regardless of temperature, which was another clue that it was electrical rather than mechanical. Would be interested to hear if yours behaves differently.

Thanks for that detailed follow-up, and yes, you're right, I've definitely noticed a slight ticking sound during cold starts! The vibrations do seem to improve somewhat after the engine warms up, which is different from your experience. That makes sense now, given we're likely dealing with different issues. The insights about the camshaft position problems are really helpful. I'll be sure to mention the oil pressure possibility to my mechanic, it's actually due for an oil change soon anyway, so maybe that's contributing to the problem. I've booked an appointment for next week to get it checked out, and I'll definitely have them look at both the mechanical and electrical aspects you mentioned. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and knowledge. Even though our issues might be different, it's super helpful to have this information before heading to the workshop. I'll update once I find out what's actually causing these problems in my 2022 BMW!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW 4 Series diesel. I've got some experience working on cars, but I usually leave the complex stuff to professionals. When I faced those symptoms, it turned out to be a loose connection in the wiring harness near the engine mount sensors. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it quickly. They had to clean and reseat the connections, plus replace one damaged plug. Total bill came to 95 Euro, and the vibrations and rough idling completely disappeared. Could you share what specific error codes you're getting? Also, does the vibration get worse at certain RPMs? This might help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same issue. I've seen similar problems on other BMW models too. Let me know these details, and I might be able to share more specific insights based on what I learned from my experience with the 4 Series.
