BMW 2 Series Height Control & Headlight Warning Issues

Thanks for sharing your experience! My engine is a 2.0L and I first noticed these issues about a week ago. Haven't had any problems before that, and the car was running perfectly fine after my last service at 88,925 KM. The error code I'm getting is ABC-123 (just checked it with my OBD reader). The height difference became quite obvious after hitting a pretty nasty pothole, actually. Really appreciate your input about the control rod sensor, that definitely gives me something specific to look into.

Hey again! Thanks for providing those details, that's super helpful. You know what, this sounds even more similar to what I experienced with my BMW now that you've mentioned the pothole incident. I had the exact same error code on my 4 series after hitting a rough patch on the road. Just to add to my previous repair story, when I hit that bump, it actually damaged both the control rod sensor and the height level sensor. The mechanic showed me that the impact had knocked the sensor slightly out of alignment, which is why my car was giving me all those symptoms. The total repair ended up being a bit more than I initially mentioned, around 180 Euro for both sensors plus labor. Quick tip from my experience: if you're planning to get it fixed, make sure they check both sensors since they often get damaged together. Also, my mechanic recommended getting the wheel alignment checked after the sensor replacement, which turned out to be a good call. Would you mind keeping me posted on what you find out? I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same issue. These BMWs can be quite sensitive when it comes to their suspension sensors!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! That's really valuable information about both sensors potentially being affected. It makes total sense that the pothole could have knocked multiple things out of whack. I actually just called my mechanic and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. I'm going to specifically mention the control rod and height level sensors based on your experience. Really appreciate the tip about getting the wheel alignment checked afterward too, definitely wouldn't have thought of that. The total repair cost you mentioned isn't as bad as I was fearing, to be honest. I was worried it might be something more serious with the entire suspension system. I'll definitely let you know what they find when I get it checked out. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's super helpful to hear from someone who's dealt with the exact same issue!

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars, and funny enough, I dealt with a similar issue on my 2016 BMW 4 series (also gasoline). Had almost identical symptoms, warning light, misaligned headlights, and uneven ride height. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out it was a faulty control rod sensor. Fixed it up for about 110 Euro, and everything went back to normal. Before I share more specific details about my repair, could you tell me your exact engine size and if you're getting any specific error codes? Also, when did you first notice the height difference? This info would help me give you more relevant advice based on my experience.
