BMW 2 Series petrol engine: Fault in the tank ventilation system and DMTL valve

Loss of engine power

Stalling while idling

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Shaking while idling

Hello everyone, I'm struggling with my 2018 BMW 2 Series petrol engine. The car has recently started behaving strangely - the Check Engine light comes on, engine power drops, the engine runs unevenly, jerks when accelerating, dies at idle and vibrates when stationary. My main suspicion is a fault in the tank ventilation system or the DMTL valve. Does anyone know about this problem or have any experience with it? How did your garage solve this problem? I am looking forward to your tips and experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I drive a BMW 3 Series from 2016 and had a similar problem. I only have some experience with cars, so I took it to my garage. The guys there found that the valve was actually faulty. It cost me about 280 euros to repair it. How many kilometers has your car done and when was the last inspection? The more information you provide, the better I may be able to help you. Greetings!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. My BMW has 67890 km on the clock and the last inspection was recently. They didn't find any problems during the inspection, but then this problem occurred. 280 euros for the repair is a bit much, but if it solves the problem, it's worth the price. Thanks again!

Hi, I'm glad that my experience might help. With your mileage and a recent inspection, such problems should not really occur. Nevertheless, in my case it was exactly the DMTL valve that was responsible for similar symptoms. So it could well be that it's the same for you. Incidentally, the 280 euros also included the labor costs - so it's a bit of money, but compared to a broken engine or similar, I think it's still reasonable. It's best to talk to your garage and ask them directly about the valve. Hopefully your problem can be solved that easily! If you have any other questions, keep them coming! Take care and always have a good ride, buddy!

Wow, thanks for the detailed answer! The comparison with the cost of a broken engine has really convinced me not to hesitate and have it checked out. I will definitely talk to my garage and ask about this valve directly. Thanks again for the help and the wise advice! Always have a good ride, friend! Stay healthy!
