BMW 3 Hybrid Mirror Functions Fail: Heating & Dimming Issues

Hey all, having issues with my 2023 BMW 3 Hybrid's mirrors. Both the heating and dimming functions stopped working, and there's an error code showing up. My initial thought is faulty mirror heating, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar mirror problems? Would love to hear what the actual problem was and how your mechanic fixed it. Looking for real experiences before I take it to the workshop.

Summary of the thread

A 2023 BMW 3 Hybrid is experiencing issues with its mirror heating and dimming functions, accompanied by an error code. The initial suspicion is faulty mirror heating, but the exact cause is unclear. A similar issue in another BMW model was resolved by fixing loose wiring connections in the mirror assembly. It is suggested to check both the wiring and fuses as potential solutions before proceeding with more costly repairs.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there! I have some experience working with cars, and I dealt with a similar issue on my 2021 BMW 5 Series Hybrid (also had a 7 Series before). Had the exact same symptoms, mirrors not heating or dimming, plus that annoying error code. Turned out to be a faulty wiring connection in the mirror assembly. My mechanic found that some cables had worked loose, causing both functions to fail. The fix wasn't too complex, they reconnected and secured the cables properly. Cost me 95 Euro and it's been working perfectly since then. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you share your exact model variant and error code? That would help narrow down if it's the same issue I encountered.

Thanks for sharing your experience! This gives me a bit of hope. My car just had its latest service last month at 30585 KM, and everything was fine then. This mirror issue just started happening out of nowhere last week. I'll definitely get my mechanic to check the wiring first, sounds like it could save me from a more expensive repair if it's just loose cables like in your case. The error code is different from what you had though, I'll send it over once I get back to my car and can check it properly.

Hey again! Yeah, it's always interesting how these issues can pop up suddenly, even right after a service. Since you mentioned the timing, it reminds me of what happened with my 5 Series, the problem started about three weeks after a routine service too. Makes me wonder if sometimes the service work can inadvertently disturb some of these connections. Just to add to my previous experience, after that first wiring fix I mentioned, I actually had the issue come back briefly about six months later. But this time it was just a blown fuse that was easy to replace. My mechanic explained that these electrical gremlins can sometimes be tricky to pin down completely on the first try, especially in these newer hybrid models with all their complex electronics. Looking forward to hearing what error code you're getting. It might help both of us understand these mirror issues better, they seem to be a bit of a common quirk in these newer BMWs. Keep me posted on what your mechanic finds!

Thanks for the additional info about your recurring issues, that's really helpful to know. Especially about checking the fuses too. I just checked my car and got the error code E-4582. It's different from what you had, but you're right about these electrical issues being tricky in hybrids. I've booked it in for next week, and I'll make sure to mention both the wiring connections and fuses to my mechanic. It's actually quite reassuring to know someone else has dealt with similar problems, these fancy features are great when they work, but can be a real headache when they don't! I'll definitely update this thread once I get it sorted, might help others with similar issues. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in detail.
