Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful as it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. It's good to know about the control module potentially being the culprit too. If you don't mind me asking, what did you end up paying for the whole repair? And has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues popping up?

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Since my last post, I took my 5 series to the mechanic and it turned out I was spot on about the lateral acceleration sensor being the main issue. They fixed it, and I'm happy to report the problem's completely sorted now, no more ABS warning lights or any funny business with the braking system. The total bill came to 1000 € for fixing the affected control unit, which was definitely defective. While it wasn't cheap, it was worth every penny for the peace of mind. The car's running like a dream now, smooth braking, no warning lights, nothing dodgy at all. Since the repair about a month ago, I haven't had a single issue pop up. The ABS is working perfectly, and honestly, you can really feel the difference in how the car handles, especially during harder braking. It's actually kind of scary to think I was driving around with a faulty ABS system for a while! Honestly, once you get it sorted, you'll notice a huge difference. Just make sure they do a thorough diagnostic check to confirm it's the same issue as mine.

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and wow, what a journey it's been! Initially, I was pretty nervous about getting ripped off, but I found this really honest mechanic who took the time to explain everything. Turned out my issue was a bit different, had a faulty wheel speed sensor that was messing with the whole ABS system. The repair wasn't as expensive as I feared, came to about 400 € including labor. They got it done in just a few hours, and I can already tell the difference. The mechanic also showed me the old sensor, it was completely corroded. No wonder the ABS was acting up! The braking feels so much more responsive now, and that annoying warning light is finally gone. Should've gotten it fixed sooner instead of worrying about getting overcharged. Really appreciate everyone's input on this. It helped me know what questions to ask and what to look out for. Now I can finally drive without constantly staring at that warning light!

Hey there! I actually faced a similar issue with my 2010 BMW 5 series last month. The ABS warning light came on, and initially, I also thought it was just the lateral acceleration sensor. However, when I got it checked, it turned out the ABS control module was defective and needed replacement. It was quite a serious issue since the ABS is crucial for safe braking, especially in emergency situations. In my case, the car would sometimes lose ABS functionality completely during drives, which was pretty concerning. The repair involved replacing the entire ABS control unit, plus they had to reprogram the new module to sync with the car's systems. The whole process took about a day and a half at the shop. The module had corroded due to moisture getting in over time, pretty common issue with these models. If your symptoms are similar to what I experienced (ABS light staying on, occasional system failures), I'd recommend getting the control unit checked along with the sensor. Better safe than sorry with brake-related issues.
