Yeah thanks for sharing your experience! Had almost forgotten about this until I saw your post. That heater control valve issue is pretty common with these BMWs, right? Got me thinking, how much did you end up paying for the whole repair job? And has everything been working smoothly since then, or did you run into any other heating problems? Just want to know what I might be in for with my car. Thanks!

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, got the issue sorted last month and thought you'd like to know how it turned out. You were spot on about these heater control issues being common in BMWs. Took it to the mechanic and yep, it was exactly what I'd mentioned before, the water valve was acting up. They found the cable connection was shot, but thankfully the fix wasn't too brutal on the wallet. Ended up paying 95€ for the repair, which included sorting out both the defective water valve and the dodgy cable connection. Really happy to report everything's working perfectly now. The heat distribution is even across all zones, and that annoying warning light is gone. No more freezing drives! Actually feels like a different car with a properly working heating system. Haven't had a single heating issue since the repair, so I'd definitely say it was worth every penny. If you're still having problems with yours, I'd recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later, these things tend to get worse if you leave them too long. Let me know if you need any other details about the repair, happy to help!

Thanks for the update! Actually, I went ahead and got mine fixed too. You won't believe it, but my experience was pretty similar to yours. The mechanic I found was actually decent this time, what a relief after my last nightmare experience! Turns out my valve was completely busted, and they found some gunked-up connections too. Bit pricier than yours though, had to shell out about 150 for the whole job. But honestly, it was worth every penny. The heat's working like a charm now, evenly distributed and everything. That warning light finally stopped haunting my dashboard too! Funny thing is, the mechanic showed me the old valve, it was in worse shape than I thought. Should've probably dealt with it sooner, but hey, live and learn, right? Really appreciate your help with this. Always good to know what you're walking into with these repairs. Guess that's another BMW quirk sorted! Thanks again for all the advice, really helped me feel more confident about getting it fixed.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2004 BMW 5 series last winter. Started with weak heat output and those annoying temperature differences between vents. First thought it was just low coolant, but turned out the heater control valve had a bad connection and wasn't regulating flow properly. My valve wasn't completely shot, but the wiring harness connecting to it was corroded and making intermittent contact. Got it diagnosed at the garage, and they found the connector pins were pretty much toast. They had to replace the entire harness assembly and the valve itself since they were basically one unit. Not a catastrophic repair, but definitely not something you want to ignore, poor heat regulation can sometimes point to bigger cooling system issues. Plus, driving without proper heat isn't fun. Make sure whoever checks it has experience with BMW heating systems, they're a bit different from other brands. They'll need to run proper diagnostics to pinpoint whether it's the valve, wiring, or something else in the heating circuit. Best of luck!
