BMW 5 Height Control Warning: Fix Uneven Suspension

Hi there! Need advice with my 2014 BMW 5 Hybrid (72k km) showing signs of height control issues. The warning light on the dash is on, headlights aren't aligned properly, and the car's sitting unevenly (front vs rear). My last mechanic experience wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Any recommendations for resolving this? Also curious about potential repair costs. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hey there. I had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW 3 Series Hybrid last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, uneven stance and misaligned headlights. The diagnostic revealed a faulty control rod sensor and worn-out height level sensors. Got it fixed at the dealership after a bad experience with an independent shop. The repair involved replacing both the control rod and level sensors. It was a serious job that took about two days to complete, as they needed to calibrate the new sensors and adjust the adaptive suspension system properly. Can't discuss costs, but I'd strongly suggest going to a certified BMW specialist for this one. This isn't something you want to get wrong, as it affects both safety and vehicle performance. The warning light means the adaptive suspension system isn't functioning correctly, which could lead to more problems if left unchecked.

Hey again! Your situation sounds exactly like what I went through. Pretty frustrating experience, but eventually got it sorted. Mind sharing what you ended up paying for the repair? Just wondering if prices have changed since I had mine done. Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix? My car's been good, but I've been extra cautious about checking the suspension after that whole ordeal.

Hey! Good to hear from you again. Happy to share, got my car back from the BMW specialist last month and it's running perfect now. The Height control restricted warning is completely gone, and the car's sitting perfectly level again. Total bill came to 110 € for fixing that pesky control rod sensor that was acting up. Much cheaper than I expected, to be honest, especially after seeing how complex the diagnostic process was. Since the repair, everything's been smooth sailing, no more warning lights, headlights are properly aligned, and the suspension's working like new. It's such a relief not having to worry about that uneven stance anymore! Sounds like you're staying on top of things with regular checks, that's definitely smart. These hybrid systems can be finicky, but once they're properly sorted, they're pretty reliable. Have you noticed any other quirks with yours since getting it fixed?

Thanks for the update! That's great to hear it was such a reasonable repair cost. My experience was pretty similar, ended up paying about 150 € for the whole job, including the new sensor and labor. After getting mine fixed, it's been running perfectly for the past three months. No warning lights, no uneven stance issues. You know what's funny, went back to the mechanic yesterday for a routine oil change, and they actually complimented how well the suspension system's working now. Made me feel good about getting it sorted when I did. Though I still check the car's stance every morning out of habit, guess that scare made me a bit paranoid! Haven't noticed any other issues since the repair. Just keeping up with regular maintenance now and hoping to avoid any more suspension surprises. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it's reassuring to know these problems are fixable without breaking the bank!
