BMW 6 Series CCC System Dead, No Screen, No iDrive

Hi there! My 2008 BMW 6 series is having issues with the CCC system. The screen stays black, iDrive won't respond, and there's no audio output at all. I suspect it might be a control unit communication problem. Has anyone experienced similar issues? What was the diagnosis and repair solution from your mechanic? Looking for insights before heading to the workshop. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2006 BMW 5 series (also had problems with my old 3 series). I've got some experience working on cars, but nothing too advanced. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. Initially, my mechanic suspected a CAN-BUS issue too, but it turned out to be a faulty CCC unit itself. Had to get it replaced at my local workshop and it set me back about 235 Euro. The screen came back to life immediately after the replacement. Before you head to the shop, could you share: Have you tried disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes? Any recent water damage or exposure? Does the system sometimes work, or is it completely dead? This could help narrow down if you're facing the same problem I had.

Thanks for your detailed response! My BMW's at 30414 KM and just had its service last month. I've tried disconnecting the battery for about 20 minutes but no luck. The system is completely dead, no response at all, not even occasional flickers. Haven't had any water exposure that I know of. Could the recent service have triggered something? I'm really hoping it's not as expensive as your repair, but at least I know what I might be in for. Appreciate the heads up about the potential CCC unit replacement!

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details. You know what? After reading about your mileage and the recent service, I'm even more convinced it's the CCC unit, just like what happened with mine. The fact that it's completely dead with no flickering is almost identical to what I experienced. The timing with your service is interesting, on my 5 series, it actually started acting up right after a routine check too. I initially thought the mechanics might have knocked something loose, but my workshop guy explained that it's just coincidental. These units tend to fail regardless of service intervals. Since you've already tried the battery disconnect (which was my first attempt at fixing it too), and you're getting absolutely no response, I'd say you're looking at a replacement unit. Just be careful if you're considering a used one, I tried that route first and ended up spending more in the long run because it failed after a few months. Still got my fingers crossed for you that it might be something simpler, but based on my experience, you might want to start preparing for a CCC replacement. Let me know what your mechanic says when you get it checked out!

Thanks so much for the follow-up info! That's really helpful about the used unit warning, definitely going to avoid that route after hearing your experience. I've booked the car in for next week, and I'll make sure to mention the CCC unit specifically to my mechanic. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in such detail. It's frustrating that it might be an expensive fix, but at least I'm going in prepared now. Having someone who's been through the same thing really helps! I'll try not to get my hopes up for a cheaper solution, but will definitely update you once I know what's going on. Thanks again for all your help!
