Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I've been worried about potential water damage too since we've had some rain lately. Would you mind sharing how much the repair ended up costing you? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Really appreciate the help!

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up since I saw your questions. After I got the repair done, everything has been working perfectly, not a single problem with the convertible top! Turned out I was right about the hall sensor being the culprit, and they also found a damaged cable connection that needed fixing. The total bill came to 95 € for parts and labor, which honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The mechanic did a great job explaining everything and showed me where the problem was. Since getting it fixed, I've put the top up and down countless times without any issues. No more unusual stopping or warning lights, it's like having a new car again! The repair was definitely worth every penny, especially considering what could have happened if I'd left it unfixed. Just keep in mind these systems can be pretty sensitive, so it's always good to get weird behavior checked out quickly. Let me know if you need any other info about the repair process!

Just wanted to update everyone. After gathering my courage, I finally took my car to a new mechanic yesterday. The whole experience was way better than I expected! They found similar issues, damaged wiring and a faulty sensor. The repair took about 3 hours and cost me 120 €, which honestly wasn't too bad considering all the horror stories I'd heard. The mechanic was really thorough and even showed me videos of the repair process. The convertible top is working perfectly now, smooth operation with no more warning lights or strange noises. Such a relief to have this fixed before any serious damage happened to the mechanism. Can't believe I waited so long to get it checked! Thanks again for sharing your experiences, really helped me make the decision to get it sorted. Time to enjoy some top-down driving again!

I had a similar issue with my 2013 BMW 7 Series diesel. The convertible top was acting just like yours, stopping out of nowhere and showing warning lights. After taking it to the garage, they found it was indeed a faulty connection in the wiring harness leading to the control module. In my case, moisture had gotten into one of the main plugs and corroded the connections. The technician had to replace the entire wiring section and recalibrate the system. It wasn't a quick fix, took them about 4 hours to trace and repair. It's actually a fairly serious issue since water can keep seeping in and cause more electrical problems if left unfixed. The convertible top mechanism is pretty complex with multiple sensors and motors working together. My suggestion would be to get it checked soon, driving with a malfunctioning top can lead to bigger problems with the mechanism itself.
