BMW 6 Series Door Sensors Causing Lock System Chaos

Thanks for the input! My 2017 Beemer has been really well maintained (last service done at 154587 KM) but these door gremlins are driving me nuts. I did notice it gets worse when it rains and mainly affects the driver's side. Haven't pulled any error codes yet, but that's a good suggestion, might grab my 's scanner this weekend to check. The corroded contacts thing makes sense since I often park outdoors. Did your mechanic have to take the whole door panel off to access those connections? Just trying to get an idea of what I'm looking at repair-wise. Really want to sort this before winter hits.

Hey again! Yeah, absolutely, I know exactly what you're dealing with since I had such similar issues with my BMW. When you mentioned the rain making it worse, that really confirms what I experienced. For my repair, they did have to remove the door panel to get to the connections, but it wasn't as big a job as it sounds. My mechanic took about an hour and a half total. They found some pretty nasty corrosion on the driver's side connection points (just like yours), probably because that's the door that gets the most use. Since you're parking outside like I did, you might want to ask them to add some dielectric grease to the connections while they're in there. That's what my mechanic did, and it's helped keep moisture out since the repair. I haven't had a single issue in the past 8 months, even during heavy rain. Quick tip though, if you're getting the error codes checked, make sure your 's scanner can read BMW-specific codes. Some generic ones miss these door sensor issues. My mechanic mentioned that when I first brought it in. Let me know how it goes with the scanner! Pretty sure you're dealing with the same thing I had.

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! That's really helpful info about the dielectric grease, definitely going to mention that when I take it in. Good to know about the door panel removal too, sounds less complicated than I feared. And thanks for the heads up about the BMW-specific scanner codes. Just texted my and turns out his scanner is a basic one, so I'll probably just book it straight in with my usual workshop instead. You've definitely put my mind at ease about this whole thing. Was worried it might be some major electrical system failure, but sounds like a pretty straightforward fix. Will get it sorted next week before more rain comes. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, helps a lot knowing someone else dealt with the exact same issue and got it fixed without too much hassle!

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs, though I'm not an expert mechanic. Had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW 4 Series diesel (also owned a 3 Series before). Those door sensor problems can be super annoying! Mine showed the same symptoms, unusual door warnings and locking issues. Took it to my regular workshop and turned out it was just faulty wiring connections to the door sensors. They had to fix some corroded contacts and replace a damaged plug. Cost me 95 Euro and it's been working perfectly since. Could be the same thing with yours, but to help better, could you share: Have you noticed if it's worse in wet weather? Which doors are giving you trouble? Are you getting any specific error codes?
