BMW 7 Hybrid: ABS Light + Heavy Steering Issues

Hi all! Having some worrying issues with my 2015 BMW 7 Hybrid. The ABS warning light is on, and I'm experiencing heavy steering with noticeable wheel vibrations. The tire pressure warning also popped up. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Especially keen to hear about repair experiences and workshop solutions. What was the actual problem in your case? Thanks in advance

Hi there! I have some experience working on cars, and I faced almost the exact same issue with my 2013 BMW 5 Series Hybrid (also had a 3 Series before). The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar, I had that scary combination of ABS light, steering issues, and tire pressure warning. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty tire valve sensor that was causing all these warnings to trigger. My trusted workshop diagnosed it pretty quickly, replaced the defective valve, and recalibrated the system. The whole thing cost me 280 Euro, but it solved all the issues at once. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you share: How long has this been happening? Did you notice if it gets worse at certain speeds? Have you recently hit any potholes? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same issue I had or if it might be something else. Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine is at 90380 KM and just had its service last month. The issues started about a week ago, and yeah, it definitely gets worse at higher speeds, especially over 70. Haven't hit any major potholes lately, but the steering wheel definitely shakes more when I'm braking. Starting to think it might be more than just a sensor issue in my case. Did your wheel vibrations get worse with speed too?

Hey again! Yes, absolutely, my wheel vibrations also got worse with speed, and that shaking during braking you mentioned? That's exactly what I experienced too! After hearing these additional details, I'm actually thinking your case might be different from my initial sensor diagnosis. With my 5 Series, when the vibrations got worse during braking (like yours), it turned out I had a warped brake rotor along with the sensor issue. That combo was causing those nasty vibrations, especially at higher speeds. The total repair ended up being more than I initially thought, around 800 Euro for both issues. I'd strongly suggest getting those rotors checked out. In my case, waiting would've just made things worse (and more expensive). The ABS light can definitely come on due to brake system issues, not just sensors like I first thought. Quick tip though, before you head to the workshop, do check your tire pressures manually. Even with a faulty sensor, it's worth making sure they're all properly inflated, as low pressure can make these symptoms worse (learned that the hard way with my old 3 Series). Keep me posted on what you find out! These BMWs can be tricky sometimes, but they're worth the hassle.

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You've actually made me feel a bit better about the whole situation. Just checked the tire pressures manually like you suggested, they're all good, which kind of confirms your theory about the rotors. I've booked it in at the workshop for tomorrow morning, and I'll definitely have them check both the rotors and sensors. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with both your 5 and 3 Series, it's helped me understand what I might be dealing with. The 800 Euro repair cost isn't great news, but at least I'm going in prepared! Will definitely get it sorted right away rather than waiting and risking more damage. Thanks again for all your help!
