BMW 7-Series Battery Warning: Terminal 30 Issue?
Summary of the thread
A 2009 BMW 7-Series owner is experiencing starting issues and battery discharge warnings, suspecting a Terminal 30 problem. Similar issues in another BMW were caused by a failing voltage regulator in the alternator and corrosion at the battery terminals, affecting the Terminal 30 connection. The solution involved checking the electrical charging system, replacing the alternator, and cleaning the terminals, which resolved the issues. The owner is advised to have the car checked promptly to prevent further complications.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind sharing how much you ended up paying for the repairs? Also curious if you've had any other electrical issues pop up since getting it fixed? I'm trying to budget for this and want to make sure I'm prepared for the worst. Thanks!

Hey again! Happy to report that since my last post, I took care of the issue and it's all sorted now! The Terminal 30 continuous plus interruption has been completely fixed. I only ended up paying 290 € for the repair, which included fixing the heavily discharged battery. Pretty reasonable considering what it could have been. Since getting it fixed, I haven't had a single electrical problem, no more warning lights, no more struggling to start, nothing! The car starts up perfectly every time now. It's such a relief because I was worried it might be something more serious (and expensive). I know these German cars can be pricey to fix, but this turned out to be quite straightforward once they diagnosed it properly. My mechanic did mention it was good I brought it in when I did, apparently these issues can cascade into bigger problems if left unchecked. Just make sure you find a reliable mechanic who knows BMWs well. It makes all the difference in getting it fixed right the first time! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair. Always happy to help a fellow BMW owner!

Thanks for all the details! Just wanted to update everyone, I took my car to a certified mechanic last week. Turns out my issue was pretty similar, but thankfully caught it early. The total bill came to about 320 for fixing the Terminal 30 connection and replacing some worn wiring. A bit more than what you paid, but still way better than I expected! The mechanic I found was fantastic, really took the time to explain everything and even showed me the worn parts. The car's running perfectly now, no more warning lights or starting issues. Such a relief to have this sorted without breaking the bank! Really appreciate everyone's input here, helped me avoid what could've been a much bigger headache. Definitely learned my lesson about getting these things checked out sooner rather than later! Thanks again for all the help!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW 5 series last year. The symptoms were nearly identical, sluggish starts and battery warnings. Initially thought it was just an old battery, but my mechanic found that the voltage regulator in the alternator was failing, which wasn't properly charging the battery. The alternator was overdue for replacement anyway, and there was some corrosion at the battery terminals that needed cleaning. The whole electrical charging system got checked, and they found the Terminal 30 connection (main power distribution point) had some wear. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention since it could've left me stranded anywhere. After getting it all sorted, the car's been running like new. Those battery discharge warnings haven't shown up since. If you're seeing similar symptoms, I'd definitely get it checked soon before it gets worse. Hope this helps with your decision!
