BMW 8 Airbag Light & Soft Top Issues, Sensor Problems?

Hi there! I had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW 7 Series diesel last year. I'm somewhat experienced with car maintenance, but this was definitely beyond my DIY skills. The symptoms were exactly like yours, airbag warning light and occasional soft top issues. Turned out the control unit was defective and needed replacement. Took it to my workshop, and they had to order a new unit. Total bill came to about 1000 Euro, but it fixed everything. Before I can share more specific details, could you tell me what error codes you're getting? Also, when did these issues start, and does it happen more often in specific weather conditions? I remember my BMW 5 had similar quirks that were weather-related. Stay in touch, and I'll try to help further!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! My issue started about two weeks ago, right after my last service (148695 KM). I'm getting the B00F8 error code consistently. It happens regardless of the weather, sunny or rainy, the warning light just keeps popping up. Interesting that you mentioned the control unit, that actually makes a lot of sense. Did your car make any unusual beeping sounds before the warning lights started showing up? Mine does that occasionally, especially when I'm starting up the car. I was hoping to avoid a workshop visit, but sounds like I might have to bite the bullet on this one. Was the repair time long for yours? Appreciate the help!

Hey again! Yeah, that B00F8 code definitely rings a bell, that's exactly what I was getting too. And funny you mention the beeping sounds because that's how mine started acting up as well. Those morning startup beeps were driving me crazy! The timing after your service is interesting though, mine just started out of the blue. Since you mentioned it began right after servicing, might be worth checking if something got disconnected or wasn't properly reconnected during the service. About the repair time, honestly, it wasn't too bad. The actual work only took about 4-5 hours, but I had to wait three days for the part to arrive. My mechanic said they don't usually keep these control units in stock because they're pretty specific to each model and quite expensive. One thing I learned from my experience, don't wait too long to get it fixed. I tried ignoring it for a few weeks, thinking it might sort itself out (spoiler: it didn't), and it just got more annoying with more frequent warnings. Plus, you really don't want to risk any safety system not working properly. Let me know what you decide to do. If you end up going to a workshop, I'd be curious to hear if it's the same issue as mine. These BMWs can be quite finicky with their electronics!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful, especially about the repair timing and parts availability. You've actually made me feel better about the whole situation, at least I know I'm not alone with these weird beeping issues! You're absolutely right about the service timing too. I'll definitely mention that when I take it in, just in case something got knocked loose. I'm going to stop putting it off and book it into the workshop tomorrow. Really don't want to risk any safety issues, and these warning lights are getting more frequent by the day. The three-day wait for parts isn't as bad as I was fearing, I was worried I might be without the car for weeks! I'll definitely keep you posted on what they find. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's been super helpful in understanding what I might be dealing with. Fingers crossed it's just the control unit and nothing more complicated!
