BMW 8 Oil Light Issues, Speedometer Warning Also On

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars, and I actually faced something very similar with my 2017 BMW 7 Series diesel last year. Those warning lights can definitely be stressful! In my case, it turned out I had gone way past the recommended oil change interval. My trusted mechanic found that the old oil had lost its lubricating properties, which triggered both warning lights. The fix was pretty straightforward, an oil change, new filter, and a system check. Cost me about 165 Euro, but it solved the issue completely. Before I can give more specific advice, could you share: Current mileage? When was your last oil change? Any unusual engine sounds? By the way, I also own a BMW 5 Series, and these cars really need their maintenance done on time to avoid issues. Let me know those details, and I might be able to help further!

Hey, thanks for the detailed response! My car has 11655 KM on the clock and had its last service about 2 months back. The engine actually sounds perfectly normal, no knocking or unusual noises at all, which is what makes this quite puzzling. The warning lights just popped up yesterday during my drive. You mentioning your similar experience with old oil is interesting, but since I'm not due for a change yet, I'm wondering if there could be something else going on. Maybe a faulty sensor? Does that sound possible based on your experience?

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your BMW. You're right, your situation does sound different from what I experienced, especially since you've had such recent maintenance. I actually had another issue with my BMW 7 a few months after that oil change problem I mentioned. Turned out to be a faulty oil pressure sensor, gave the exact same warning lights you're seeing, despite everything being perfectly fine with the actual oil! These sensors can be quite temperamental in our BMWs. My mechanic told me it's actually quite common in these models. The sensor cost wasn't too bad, around 85 Euro plus labor. Much better than having actual oil pressure problems! Quick tip though, even though it might just be a sensor, I wouldn't drive the car too much until you get it checked. I made that mistake once with my old 5 Series and learned the hard way that it's better to be safe than sorry with these warning lights. Would you mind keeping us posted on what you find out? Always good to know what these issues turn out to be, helps all of us BMW owners learn more about our cars!

Thanks so much for sharing that experience! Your mention of the faulty sensor really gives me hope that this might be a simpler fix than I initially feared. You're absolutely right about being cautious, I've already called my mechanic and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. I'll just use alternative transport until then, better safe than sorry as you said! I actually feel much more relaxed now knowing that you dealt with something similar and it wasn't a major issue. It's really helpful to hear from someone who's been through it, especially with a similar BMW model. These cars are amazing but they can definitely keep us on our toes sometimes! I'll definitely update the thread once I find out what's causing the problem. Thanks again for taking the time to help me understand what might be going on. Really appreciate all the detailed information and advice!
