BMW 8 Series Battery Warning: Fix Your Charging System

Hey all! Having some serious electrical issues with my 2018 BMW 8 (160k km, gas engine). My car's struggling to start and the battery warning keeps popping up. The computer's showing some undervoltage errors too. Already had a bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Pretty sure it's related to the continuous power supply, but would love to hear your experiences and trusted mechanic recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW 7 Series last month. The symptoms were identical, difficult starts and constant battery warnings. Turned out it wasn't just a simple battery issue. The alternator wasn't charging properly, and the voltage regulator was failing, causing the battery to drain constantly. Had to get both the alternator and voltage regulator replaced, plus a new battery since the old one was damaged from multiple deep discharges. It was definitely a serious repair job, took about two days to complete. These electrical problems can cascade into bigger issues if not addressed quickly. The main red flag in your case is the undervoltage errors. That's exactly what I saw before discovering my alternator problem. Don't wait too long to get it checked out, electrical issues rarely fix themselves and usually get worse.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it's actually really helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Really good to know about the alternator and voltage regulator connection. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey there! Yes, happy to share an update, everything's been working perfectly since I got it fixed. The Terminal 30 continuous plus issue was totally resolved, thank goodness. The whole thing set me back 290 € to fix the battery, which was seriously drained and damaged. A bit pricey, but way better than having to replace the alternator like I initially feared! The car starts like a dream now, no more warning lights or any electrical gremlins. I'd say getting it sorted quickly was definitely the right call, these electrical issues can really snowball if you leave them too long. Been about a month now and my 7 Series is running as smooth as ever. No quirks or issues at all since the repair. Honestly, such a relief to have it properly sorted! Let me know if you end up getting yours checked out. Really curious to hear if you're dealing with the same thing I was!

Thanks for the follow-up! I actually just got my car back from the shop yesterday. You were right about getting it checked quickly, turns out my alternator was completely shot and had damaged the battery. The whole repair ended up costing me quite a bit, around €1,200 including parts and labor. They had to replace both the alternator and battery, plus fix some damaged wiring. The mechanic I found was really thorough and explained everything. Apparently, my alternator had been slowly failing for a while, which explained all those warning lights and starting issues. Just like your experience, my car's running perfectly now, starts right up, no more warning lights, and all electrical systems are working great. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. My mechanic mentioned that leaving it could have led to some serious electrical system damage. Thanks again for sharing your story, it definitely helped push me to get it sorted before things got worse! Oh, and if anyone else runs into similar issues, definitely get it checked out right away. These electrical problems really don't fix themselves!
