BMW 8 Series Engine Troubles: FPR or Something Else?

Hey thanks for your reply! My car's at 111909 KM and I had the last service about 2 months ago. Actually, now that you mention it, I did get fuel from a different station right before these issues started. The only warning light is the check engine light, nothing else showing up on the dash. I was also wondering about the ECU reset thing you mentioned. That's interesting because I've had some work done recently, and nobody mentioned anything about resetting the ECU. Maybe that's worth looking into before I start replacing parts. Do you think I should try getting it diagnosed first rather than jumping straight to replacing the fuel pressure regulator? I'm trying to avoid unnecessary repairs if possible.

Hey again! Glad to help with some follow-up insights from my experience. Looking at what you've described, I'm even more convinced it could be similar to what I dealt with. Since you mentioned getting fuel from a different station, that's ringing some bells. After my fuel filter issue, I learned that poor quality fuel can sometimes trigger these exact symptoms, even in our high-end BMWs. In my case, I jumped to conclusions too quickly about needing major repairs. My mechanic taught me that these modern BMWs are super sensitive to any changes in the fuel system. Before replacing any parts, I'd definitely recommend getting a proper diagnosis first. The repair shop can run a fuel pressure test, it's way cheaper than replacing parts unnecessarily. Tell you what, try filling up with premium fuel from your regular station and maybe get the fuel system cleaned. If the problem persists, then yes, get that diagnostic check done. The ECU reset might also be worth discussing with your mechanic, it made a world of difference in my case. Just trying to save you from the hassle I went through. Keep me posted on what you find out!

Thanks so much for the detailed advice! You've actually made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I'll definitely take your suggestion and start with the basics, fill up with premium fuel from my regular station and get the fuel system cleaned first. Makes total sense to try the simpler solutions before diving into expensive repairs. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it's helped me avoid potentially wasting money on unnecessary parts. I'll get it properly diagnosed if the fuel quality fix doesn't work, and make sure to ask about that ECU reset too. It's amazing how these little technical details can make such a big difference. I'll keep working on this and hopefully it'll turn out to be something simple like in your case. Thanks again for taking the time to help out a fellow BMW owner with such thoughtful advice!

Hey there! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2019 BMW 7 Series last year. I've got some experience working on cars, but I usually leave the complex stuff to the professionals. After changing the fuel filter, I started getting pretty much the same symptoms you're describing, rough idle, stalling, and poor performance. Turned out the workshop needed to reset the ECU to properly recognize the new fuel filter. They also ran a diagnostic check just to be safe. Quick fix, cost me 45 Euro, and the car's been running perfectly since. Before jumping to conclusions about the fuel pressure regulator, could you share: When was your last fuel filter change? Have you recently filled up with fuel from a different station than usual? Are there any other warning lights besides the check engine light? Let me know these details and I might be able to help more specifically!
