Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Was actually planning to just replace the switch, but now I'm thinking it might be more complicated. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working fine since they fixed it, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks?

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up about the repair costs since you asked. Good news, everything's been working perfectly since I got it fixed! The issue was actually simpler than what I initially described. Turned out to be just a faulty cable connection at the switch, which the mechanic sorted out pretty quickly. The total bill came to 95 €, way less than I expected after my initial doom and gloom about the rain sensor module! No electrical quirks or any other issues since the repair. The wipers are working exactly as they should now, no more unusual activations or complete failures. Honestly, what a relief! Looking back, I probably got a bit carried away in my first response about the potential problems. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. Just shows how important it is to get a proper diagnosis rather than assuming the worst. The mechanic did a great job finding the actual problem rather than replacing parts unnecessarily.

What a relief to hear it was just a cable issue! I finally got my car checked out at a mechanic and you won't believe it, turned out to be almost exactly what you described. The tech found a loose connection that was causing all the drama with my wipers. Total cost was pretty reasonable, around 120 bucks for parts and labor. Not gonna lie, I was sweating thinking it would be some major electrical nightmare, especially with these German cars! The mechanic was super honest, showed me the problem, and fixed it in about an hour. Really glad I asked here before jumping to conclusions and trying to replace the whole wiper switch myself. You saved me from potentially making things worse. Everything's working perfectly now, no more ghost wipers turning on by themselves or refusing to work when I need them. Thanks again for your help with this! Sometimes it really pays off to ask others who've been through similar issues.

I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW 6 Series last month. The wipers would out of nowhere activate and then completely stop working. Turns out it wasn't just the switch, the wiring harness connecting to the rain sensor module had corroded and was causing intermittent connections. Got it checked at my local shop. The technician found several damaged pins in the connector, plus some moisture had gotten into the housing. They had to replace the entire rain sensor module and rewire the connection. Not a super expensive fix, but definitely needed professional attention since it's connected to the car's computer system. Trust me, don't try to DIY this one. With these symptoms, it's likely your car has the same issue. The unusual activation is a classic sign of electrical problems, not just a faulty switch. Get it checked soon, you don't want to be caught in bad weather with non-working wipers.
