BMW 8 Xenon Lights Turn Purple: Dashboard Warning Signs

Hey there! Having trouble with my 2022 BMW 8 Diesel (69k km). The dashboard keeps showing error messages, and I'm dealing with some weird lighting issues, xenon lights turning purple and turn signals acting up. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar lighting problems with their BMW 8? What was the actual issue and how much did the repair cost? Would really appreciate recommendations on how to approach this. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2022 BMW 8 Diesel experienced issues with xenon lights turning purple and erratic turn signals, accompanied by dashboard error messages. The problem was identified as a faulty cable harness connection to the lighting control module, with corrosion causing intermittent electrical issues. The solution involved replacing the connector and cleaning contact points, which resolved the lighting and dashboard warning problems. Proper attention to BMW electronics and diagnostic tools is crucial for addressing such sophisticated lighting system issues.

Hey! I drive a 2019 BMW 6 Series Diesel and dealt with similar issues last month. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced, those purple xenon lights and irregular turn signals were driving me nuts. Turned out it was a faulty cable harness connection to the lighting control module. The connector had corroded and was causing intermittent electrical issues. My mechanic showed me how the connection had deteriorated, leading to those unusual dashboard warnings. It wasn't a major repair in terms of complexity, but it's definitely something that needs proper attention. The fix involved replacing the connector and cleaning the contact points. The harness itself was fine in my case, but sometimes it might need replacement too. Just make sure whoever works on it knows BMW electronics well, these lighting systems are pretty sophisticated and need proper diagnostic tools to sort out properly. Hope this helps with your decision!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to hear from someone who went through the same headache. My BMW is actually at the shop right now getting this sorted. Mind if I ask how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, has everything been working fine since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up? Just want to make sure I'm prepared for what might come next. Thanks again!

Hey there! Good to hear back from you! Happy to share that after getting my BMW 6 fixed, everything's been running perfectly smooth, no more purple lights or warning messages to deal with. The turn signals are working like a charm now, which is such a relief. For transparency, the total repair came to 95 €, this covered fixing the faulty cable connection. Honestly, it was worth every penny considering how annoying those issues were. My mechanic did a thorough job cleaning and securing the connections, and I haven't noticed any electrical quirks since the repair. It's been about six weeks now, and the car's running just like new. Just keep an eye on things after you get yours back from the shop. If they're dealing with the same issue I had, you should be all set. These BMWs are fantastic cars when everything's working as it should! Let me know how it turns out with yours, always curious to hear if others had the same solution work for them.

Thanks for the follow-up! Just got my car back from the shop yesterday, and you were spot on, it was indeed the cable harness connection causing all those problems. My repair ended up being a bit pricier at 150 € since they had to replace the entire connector assembly, but honestly, I'm just relieved it's fixed. The mechanic I found was actually great. They took the time to show me exactly what was wrong and explained everything clearly. The purple lights are gone, turn signals work perfectly now, and no more unusual dashboard warnings popping up. Such a weight off my shoulders! Funny how something relatively simple can cause such annoying problems, right? Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it helped me feel more confident about getting it checked out. Time to enjoy driving my BMW again without worrying about those weird electrical gremlins! Thanks again for all your help!
