Thanks for sharing your experience! Glad you got it sorted out with the wiring harness issue. If you don't mind me asking, what did the repair end up costing you? Also, has everything been working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks with the electrical system?

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Just wanted to let you know that I actually went to the mechanic last week after our first chat. You'll be happy to hear they found and fixed the anti-theft alarm tilt sensor fault, turns out you were right to suspect that in the first place! The problem was a dodgy cable connection to the component, which wasn't too complicated to sort out. The whole thing set me back 95 €, which I thought was pretty reasonable considering how annoying those unusual alarms were getting. Since the fix, everything's been working perfectly, no more unusual alarms or weird behavior from the security system. The electrical system's been rock solid too, no other quirks to report. It's such a relief not having to worry about the alarm going off for no reason anymore! Just goes to show sometimes it's worth getting a second opinion from a different mechanic. The diagnostic scan they did really helped pinpoint the exact issue, unlike my previous experiences. Let me know if you end up getting yours checked out, would be interesting to hear if it's the same problem!

Thanks for the follow-up! So glad to hear you got it fixed at a reasonable price. Your success story gave me confidence to tackle my issue, I actually took my car to a new mechanic yesterday. Funny enough, my problem was different from yours, turned out to be a failing battery causing the electrical system to act up. Got that replaced along with some corroded terminals cleaned up. Total cost came to about 200 € including the new battery, which wasn't too bad. The mechanic was really thorough and explained everything clearly. No more unusual alarms since the fix, and the check engine light has finally gone off! Such a relief to have this sorted, I can finally park without worrying about the alarm going crazy in the middle of the night. Really appreciate you sharing your experience. It definitely helped push me to get this sorted sooner rather than later. Amazing how these BMWs can throw such similar symptoms from different causes! Take care!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2007 BMW 5 Series diesel back when it had around 140K on the clock. The unusual alarm triggers were driving me nuts. Based on my recent garage visit, it turned out the issue wasn't actually the tilt sensor, it was a faulty connection in the door locking mechanism that was sending incorrect signals to the alarm system. The mechanic found corroded wiring harness connectors near the driver's door, which was causing intermittent false readings. It wasn't a serious mechanical issue, but it definitely needed fixing to stop those annoying unusual alarms. The check engine light in my case was tied to the same electrical gremlin. The fix involved replacing some connectors and cleaning up the connection points. Pretty straightforward job once they identified the real problem. Make sure whoever checks it does a proper diagnostic scan, my first mechanic also jumped to conclusions about the tilt sensor without doing thorough testing. Just don't let it go too long without fixing it, as these electrical gremlins can sometimes lead to bigger issues with the car's security system. Hope this helps with your decision!
