Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. The crackling noise and progression of the failure match perfectly with what's happening to my car. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the amp replacement and rewiring? Also, has everything been working fine since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks?

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your questions. After seeing my mechanic, everything's been working great, no more audio issues at all. In my case, it turned out to be simpler than the amp problem I initially thought. The bass speaker was defective and needed replacement, which set me back 280 €. Much cheaper than I expected! Been driving around jamming to my tunes for the past few weeks with zero problems. No electrical quirks or anything else to report. The sound quality is actually better than before, I forgot how good the BMW audio system can sound when everything's working properly! Trust me, it's such a relief to have it fixed. Now I can enjoy my podcasts and music without that awful crackling noise. The repair shop did a solid job, and the price was fair for the work done. Hope this helps with your decision-making!

Thanks so much for the update! That's really encouraging to hear, especially about the cost. I was worried it would be way more expensive. After your feedback, I decided to take my car to a new mechanic yesterday who specializes in car audio systems. Turns out my problem was also just a faulty speaker, similar to yours! The mechanic showed me the damaged parts and explained everything clearly. Cost me about 300 for the whole repair, including labor. They also checked the amp just to be safe, but it was working fine. Just picked up my car this morning and wow, what a difference! The sound is crystal clear now, even better than when I first bought the car. Really glad I asked here first instead of going back to my old mechanic who probably would've charged me double for the wrong fix. Thanks again for helping me sort this out. Time to enjoy some proper music during my commute!

I had a similar issue with my 2011 BMW 3 Series last month. The bass speaker went out first, followed by complete audio system failure. My mechanic found it was the amplifier that went bad, which is apparently common in these models. The amp was sending incorrect signals to the speakers, causing that crackling sound you mentioned. In my case, they had to replace the amplifier and rewire some connections. It wasn't just a simple speaker replacement like I initially thought. It's definitely a serious issue that needs proper fixing, don't try any DIY solutions as it could damage other electrical components. Make sure to find a garage that specializes in BMW audio systems, as the wiring is quite specific to these models. Time-wise, my car spent two days at the shop, but it's been working perfectly since then. Driving with good sound again is worth the hassle.
