Thanks for sharing that, it's super helpful! I'm dealing with the exact same symptoms in my car right now. The IBS thing makes total sense, and I'm glad you mentioned it because I might've just gone for a basic battery replacement. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole fix? Also, has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks pop up?

Hey there! Happy to give you an update. I got the IBS issue fixed and the total came to 315 €, honestly, it was worth every penny. The mechanic diagnosed it spot on, and since they replaced that faulty battery sensor, my car's been running like a dream. It's been completely trouble-free since the repair, no more dead battery, no dim lights, and those annoying dashboard warnings are gone for good. The electrical system is working exactly as it should now. Actually really glad I didn't just go for a simple battery replacement, as that wouldn't have solved the root cause. Trust me, if you're seeing the same symptoms I had, get that IBS checked out. A proper diagnosis and fix will save you from potential bigger issues down the road. My car starts up perfectly now, even after sitting for a while, and the electrical system is working just like it did when the car was new.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I took your advice and visited a new mechanic yesterday who actually specializes in BMW electrical systems. You were spot on about the IBS, that's exactly what was wrong with mine too. The repair cost me a bit more at 380 €, but the service was totally worth it. The whole experience was way better than my last mechanic visit. These guys knew exactly what they were doing. The car's been sitting in my garage for two days now, and it started up perfectly this morning, no more weak lights or warning messages. What a relief! It's crazy how something as small as a faulty sensor can cause so many problems. Really glad I asked here instead of just getting the battery replaced. You saved me from a lot of future headaches. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW 3 Series last winter. The symptoms were identical, dead battery after sitting idle, dim lights, and dashboard warnings. My sensor was reading the battery status incorrectly, leading to improper charging cycles. The mechanics found a faulty Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) that wasn't communicating properly with the car's electrical system. They replaced the sensor and reprogrammed the Battery Management System. It was actually a serious issue because a failing IBS can eventually damage your alternator and cause complete electrical system failure. I'd suggest having someone check specifically for IBS issues rather than just jumping to a battery replacement. After my fix, the car's been running perfectly with no more battery problems. Make sure whoever works on it knows BMW electrical systems well, it's not just a simple battery swap.
