BMW Cruise Control Failure: Owner Seeks Fellow Drivers' Help

Hey there! Need some advice about my 2022 BMW 6 diesel (135k km). The cruise control suddenly stopped working, and there's an error message on the speedometer. My mechanic wasn't very helpful last time, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their BMW? What was the diagnosis and repair cost? Thanks for any insights!

I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW 5 Series diesel. The cruise control failure happened quite abruptly during regular driving. Last month, I took it to the garage and they found that the brake pedal position sensor connector was loose, plus there was some corrosion on the pins. They had to clean the connector pins and replace the wiring harness section that connects to the brake pedal sensor. It was actually not as serious as it initially seemed, but it needed proper diagnostic equipment to identify the exact problem. Without a working brake pedal sensor, the cruise control system disables itself as a safety measure. The repair took about 2 hours to complete. It's definitely worth getting it checked by a certified mechanic who has experience with BMW electronics, as these systems are quite complex and interconnected. After the fix, everything has been working perfectly.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the brake pedal sensor issue! That's really helpful to know. Would you mind telling me how much the whole repair cost you? Also, just curious if you've had any other electrical gremlins pop up since they fixed it? Contemplating whether I should bite the bullet and take mine to a BMW specialist instead of my regular mechanic.

Hey again! Good news, I went ahead and got my BMW fixed after our last chat. My total bill came to 95 € for sorting out the cable connection problem. Pretty reasonable, considering I was worried it might be something major! The cruise control's working perfectly now, smooth sailing just like before. You asked about other electrical issues, nope, haven't had a single problem since the repair. That's why I'm extra glad I went to a specialist who knew their way around BMW systems. Looking back, it was definitely worth skipping the regular mechanic for this one. These modern BMWs can be pretty finicky with their electronics, so having someone who really knows the brand makes a big difference. If you're still on the fence about where to take yours, I'd say go for the BMW specialist. They might cost a bit more per hour, but they'll probably diagnose and fix it right the first time, which could actually save you money in the long run. Just my two cents based on how well mine turned out!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! You were totally right about going to the specialist. I actually went ahead and got mine checked out at a BMW certified shop yesterday. Turns out I had almost the exact same issue, a faulty brake pedal sensor connection. The mechanic fixed it in about an hour and a half, and it cost me 120 € including diagnostic fees. A bit more than what you paid, but still way better than what I was imagining! The best part? The cruise control's working perfectly again, and the error message is gone. The specialist also did a quick system check and found no other issues, which was really reassuring. I'm so glad I asked for advice here instead of going back to my regular mechanic. You saved me from probably spending more time and money trying to figure this out. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it definitely helped me make the right choice!
