Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with right now. Really helpful to know about the CCC unit being the culprit in your case. Would you mind letting me know roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since they fixed it?

Hey there! Glad I could help. Quick update on my situation, after getting it fixed, the system has been working perfectly. No more flickering displays or radio issues. The total bill came to 725 € for replacing the CCC unit and reprogramming everything. I know it seems steep, but considering how critical the iDrive system is, it was worth every penny. Since the repair, everything's been running smoothly, no glitches, no error messages, nothing. The audio system is crystal clear now, and the display is as sharp as when the car was new. I actually just took a long drive yesterday, and it's such a relief not having to deal with a faulty system anymore. My advice would be to get it sorted sooner rather than later. These issues tend to get worse over time, and you really don't want to end up without access to your car's essential functions. Just make sure you go to someone who really knows their way around BMW electronics.

Just wanted to update everyone, I took my car to a certified BMW specialist yesterday. Turns out you were spot on! The CCC unit was the problem, just like in your case. Got it fixed and honestly, I'm so relieved. The repair was actually a bit cheaper than expected, paid around 680 € all in. The mechanic was super professional and explained everything clearly. They kept the car for two days, replaced the unit, and did all the necessary programming. The best part? My infotainment system is working perfectly now. The display is crystal clear, no more flickering, and the radio's back to life. Such a weight off my shoulders! The mechanic also checked everything else while they were at it and gave the system a full diagnostic test. Thanks again for your advice, it really helped me make the right decision instead of putting it off or trying cheaper alternatives that probably wouldn't have worked.

I had the exact same issue with my 2011 BMW 5 diesel (E60) just months ago. The display was flickering and eventually went completely dark. Turned out the CCC (Car Communication Computer) unit was failing, it's the brain behind the iDrive system. The garage found multiple connection issues in the CCC module and also detected corrosion on some pins. They had to replace the entire unit and reprogram it. It wasn't just a quick fix, the car was at the shop for three days because they needed to ensure all systems were properly integrated after the replacement. This is actually a known problem with these units, and it's definitely a serious repair that requires specialist knowledge. Given how critical the iDrive system is for controlling various car functions, I wouldn't recommend postponing the repair or trying DIY solutions. Hope this helps with your decision making.
