Thanks for sharing your experience, That's really helpful. I was worried it might be the iDrive control unit. It's reassuring to know someone else had the same issue fixed successfully. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the repair end up costing? And have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed? Just trying to prepare myself mentally (and financially) for what's ahead. Thanks again!

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Since my previous message, I actually took my i8 to a certified BMW center and got everything sorted out. The audio system is working perfectly now, no more glitches or black screens. What a relief! About the costs, I ended up paying 725 € for the display repair, which included labor and parts. It wasn't cheap, but honestly, it was worth every penny to have it working properly again. The technicians really knew what they were doing with the iDrive system. And to answer your question about other electrical issues, nope, absolutely nothing else has popped up since the repair. It's been running smoothly for months now. The fix seems to have taken care of everything completely. I totally get being worried about the costs, but these systems are pretty complex and need proper attention. My advice would be to bite the bullet and get it done at a certified place, it'll save you headaches in the long run. Let me know how it goes when you get yours fixed!

Thanks again, I actually just got back from the BMW service center today. You were spot on about getting it properly checked out. Took your advice and went to a certified place. Turns out it was definitely the iDrive unit, just like you said. The repair cost was a bit steep, but at least I know it's done right. The technician was super thorough and explained everything. The best part? The system's working perfectly now, no more flickering or black screens. The sound is crystal clear too. Such a relief to have this sorted. Really glad I didn't try to cut corners with a cheaper repair shop. Thanks for helping me make the right call on this one. It's great to know another BMW owner who's gone through the same thing. Really appreciate all your advice! Catch you later.

Hey there! I went through something similar with my 2018 BMW i8 Hybrid last year. The infotainment system showed the same symptoms, flickering display, black screen, and total audio failure. It turned out to be a faulty iDrive control unit that needed replacement. Based on my experience with these units, this isn't just a minor glitch. The control unit is integrated with several vehicle systems, so it's definitely something that needs proper diagnosis and repair. The service took about two days at my dealer. Since BMWs have specific diagnostic tools and software requirements, I'd strongly recommend going to a certified BMW service center for this issue. My repair was covered under extended warranty, but these electronic components can be significant repairs. Worth getting it checked soon before it affects other connected systems. The symptoms you're describing are nearly identical to what I experienced. Hope this helps.
