BMW i4 Climate Control Chaos: Frozen Nozzles & Fog Issues

Hey there! Got some concerns with my 2023 BMW i4 (124,347 km). The climate control system's acting weird, windows keep fogging up even with auto settings, and the AC won't kick in. Also having issues with frozen washer nozzles and non-working mirror heaters. The error log shows a stored fault, and I suspect it might be the fog sensor. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their i4? Would love to hear about your experiences and trusted mechanic recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Had the same issue with my 2020 BMW iX3. The symptoms were identical, foggy windows, AC problems, and frozen washer nozzles. Last month at the garage, they found it was a faulty wiring harness connection to the climate control module. The cable insulation had worn down, causing intermittent signal issues. What seemed like a fog sensor problem was actually just poor electrical connectivity. The repair involved replacing the wiring harness and reconnecting the module properly. Not a major mechanical issue, but definitely needed professional attention since it affected multiple systems. The technician mentioned these connection problems are somewhat common in electric BMWs. Would suggest getting it checked soon, driving with compromised defrosting and AC isn't ideal. Better to fix it before winter really sets in.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the wiring harness being the culprit. My symptoms sound exactly like what you dealt with. I'll definitely get it looked at soon. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, curious if you've had any other electrical gremlins pop up since they fixed it?

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up since my last post. Great news, took your advice and got it checked out. They found a dodgy cable connection at the fog sensor, just needed a proper fix. Cost me 95 € and honestly, it was worth every penny. Everything's working perfectly now, no more foggy windows, AC's running great, and all those annoying little issues have disappeared. I'm SO glad I mentioned this in the forum because it helped me understand what I was dealing with. And no, I haven't had any other electrical issues pop up since the repair. My 2020 iX3 is running like a dream now. Sometimes it's just these small electrical gremlins that can make you think something major is wrong, but turns out it was just a simple fix. Still loving my BMW, these things happen with any car, and once you get them sorted, you're good to go. Let me know if you need any other info about the repair!

Thanks so much for the update! that's such a relief to hear it was just a simple wiring issue. The 95 € price tag is way better than what I was fearing. Actually went ahead and took mine to a mechanic yesterday based on your advice. It's pretty funny, turned out to be almost identical to your problem. The mechanic showed me the worn cable insulation and fixed it right up. Been driving for a couple days now and what a difference! No more foggy windows, and the climate control's working like new. Sometimes I get too worked up about car problems, thinking they're gonna cost an arm and a leg. Really glad I reached out here instead of just worrying about it. These BMWs might have their quirks, but when they're running right, they're amazing machines. Thanks again for helping me sort this out!
