BMW i4 Cruise Control Failure: Causes and Solutions

Having trouble with my 2022 BMW i4. Cruise control suddenly stopped working and I'm getting an error message on the speedometer. The error is also stored in the car's memory. Has anyone dealt with this before? Would like to know what the diagnosis was and how your workshop fixed it. Any tips on what to look out for would be great.

Summary of the thread

A 2022 BMW i4 owner is experiencing a cruise control failure, indicated by an error message on the speedometer and stored in the car's memory. A similar issue was resolved in a BMW iX3 by fixing a loose connection in the wiring harness connected to the cruise control module. The suggested solution is to have a workshop check the entire wiring harness for loose connections, as this might be the cause of the problem.

Hey there! I have some experience working on EVs and had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW iX3. As an iX owner, I can relate to these electronic gremlins! Had the exact same problem last month, cruise control failed and got error messages. Took it to my workshop where they found it was just a loose connection in the wiring harness connected to the cruise control module. Total repair was 95 Euro, mainly diagnostic and labor costs to trace and fix the cable connection. Before you head to the workshop, could you share: Are you getting any specific error codes? Does the cruise control completely fail to engage, or does it cut out while driving? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? This info would help me give you more specific advice from my experience.

Thanks for the detailed response! Yes, my cruise control completely fails to engage when I press the button. Getting error code "CC2365" on the display. No other electrical issues that I've noticed so far. Car is running fine otherwise with 126590 KM on the clock, and everything was working perfectly at my last service two weeks ago. Hopefully it's just a wiring issue like yours was. Good to hear it wasn't too expensive to fix. I'll try to get it into the workshop this week to have them check those connections you mentioned. Really appreciate the help!

Hey again! Good to hear back from you. Yeah, that error code CC2365 is exactly what I had on my iX3 too! It's quite a relief that you're not experiencing any other electrical gremlins, that's usually a good sign. Since your car was fine at the service two weeks ago, I'm even more convinced it's the same wiring issue I had. In my case, the connection had worked itself loose over time due to normal vibration. The weird thing was that it happened right after a service too, maybe all that poking around during maintenance somehow affected it. Before the cruise control completely stopped working, did you notice it acting a bit weird? Like maybe being slower to engage? In my case, I ignored some minor hesitation for about a week before it completely gave up. And just a heads up, when you take it in, make sure they check the entire wiring harness, not just the obvious connection points. My mechanic initially only looked at the main connector, but the actual loose connection was further along the harness. Saved me from having to go back a second time! Keep us posted on what they find. Really curious to know if it's the same issue as mine!

Thanks so much for the follow-up! Now that you mention it, yes, I did notice the cruise control was a bit sluggish to engage for about a week or so before it completely stopped working. I just brushed it off thinking I wasn't pressing the button properly. Definitely wish I'd paid more attention to that warning sign now! Really appreciate the tip about getting them to check the entire harness. I'll make sure to mention that when I take it in tomorrow. My regular mechanic tends to look for quick fixes, so this advice might save me a repeat visit. I'll update you once I get it checked out, hopefully it'll be as straightforward as your repair was. Thanks again for all your help and for sharing your experience. It's definitely put my mind at ease knowing it's likely just a wiring issue rather than something more serious!
