BMW i4 Massage Seat Malfunction, Help Needed

Massage seat without function

|

Fault stored

Hey all, having trouble with my 2022 BMW i4's massage seat function. It's completely unresponsive, won't turn on or off when I try to use it. System shows an error code too. Anyone else dealt with a faulty massage seat switch? Would really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the fix was at your workshop. Looking for some guidance before taking it in.

Hey there! As someone with some experience working on EVs, I can relate to your massage seat issue. I had a similar problem with my 2020 BMW iX3 last year. The symptoms were exactly the same, massage function wouldn't respond and got an error code. Turned out to be a loose connection in the wiring harness under the seat. My workshop found that the plug connecting to the massage module had worked itself loose over time. The fix was pretty straightforward, they reconnected and secured the cable properly, then reset the system. Cost me 95 Euro for the diagnostic and repair work. Been working perfectly since then. Before you head to the shop, could you share: Which error code you're getting? Does this happen all the time or intermittently? Have you noticed any other seat functions acting up? This might help narrow down if you're dealing with the same connection issue I had.

Thanks for the input! I'm having similar symptoms with my i4 at 57263 KM. Glad to hear it was just a loose connection in your case. My error code is E-4572, and it's a consistent issue, happens every time I try to use it. None of the other seat functions are affected though, everything else works fine. My last service was just two months ago and this started right after. Maybe they disturbed something while working on it? I'll try to get it checked out and see if it's the same wiring problem you mentioned.

Hey again! Yeah, that error code and the timing definitely rings a bell, especially since it started after your service. You're probably right about something getting disturbed during the work. With my iX3, I actually had a really similar situation, the problem showed up about a week after a routine service at around 60,000 KM. Makes me think the techs might have accidentally knocked the connector loose while working on something else under the seat. These things happen. Since you've got the same symptoms and that E-4572 code (which is what I had too), I'm pretty confident you're dealing with the same connection issue. The fact that your other seat functions are working normally is another hint, that's exactly how mine was. Quick tip from my experience, when you take it in, make sure to mention it started after the recent service. Since it's so close to your last visit, they might even sort it out under warranty or as a courtesy fix. Mine did, since they admitted it was probably related to the previous service work. Let us know how it turns out, it'll be interesting to see if it's the same fix as mine!

Thanks so much for all the detailed feedback! This is really helpful, especially knowing you had the same E-4572 code and similar timing after service. I've just called my dealership and explained everything, mentioning what you said about the connection issue and the recent service timing. They were actually pretty understanding and agreed to look at it as a priority since it started right after their work. Got an appointment for next week, and they said they won't charge me if it turns out to be related to the previous service, exactly like you suggested! Really appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll definitely update the thread once it's fixed, but I'm feeling much more confident now knowing it's likely just a loose connection and not something more serious. Thanks again for walking me through this!
