BMW i4 Overheating, Electric Fan Failure Suspected

Thanks for sharing your experience! My i4 actually started showing these symptoms right after my latest service two weeks ago. Unlike your case, I notice the overheating mostly during regular city driving, not even during charging sessions. The temp gauge shoots up within 15-20 minutes of driving, which is super annoying. Currently at 112309 KM and wondering if anyone else has experienced cooling issues specifically on the i4? Starting to think it might be a different problem than what you had with your iX3.

Hey again! Thanks for those additional details about your i4's behavior. You're right, this does sound different from what I experienced with my iX3. The fact that it started after your service really caught my attention. After hearing this, I'm actually thinking it could be related to the coolant level or maybe air trapped in the cooling system. When my iX3 had its first major service, I had a somewhat similar issue where the temp would spike during city driving. Turned out the cooling system wasn't properly bled after they did some work. Since you're having issues specifically during city driving rather than charging, I'm less convinced it's the electrical connection issue I had before. Have you checked if the coolant level is correct? Also, did they do any cooling system work during your last service? My workshop actually had to bleed the system twice to get all the air out. After that, the temperature stayed perfectly stable. The whole fix took about 3 hours and was covered under warranty since it was their mistake during servicing. Let me know if you want more details about what exactly they did to fix mine. Really curious to hear what your workshop says about this!

Thanks so much for the follow-up! You've given me a lot to think about. I just checked my service records and they did do some work on the cooling system during the last service. Called the workshop and mentioned what you said about the air in the system, they admitted it could definitely be the culprit! They've scheduled me in for tomorrow morning to check it out and do a proper system bleed if needed. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's super helpful to know about the double bleeding your workshop had to do. I'll make sure they're thorough with mine. Will keep my fingers crossed that it's just trapped air and nothing more serious. Thanks again for helping me narrow down the possible causes!

Hey there! I have some experience with EVs and went through something similar with my 2019 BMW iX3 (love BMWs, also owned an i3 before). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. My car was going into limp mode due to overheating. Turns out it was just a faulty connection in the cooling system's wiring harness. The workshop found a damaged plug that wasn't making proper contact. The fix was pretty straightforward, they replaced the wiring connection and did a system reset. Cost me 95 Euro and haven't had any issues since. Was back on the road the same day. Could you share more details about when this started happening? Like, does it occur more during fast charging or high-speed driving? That info would help nail down if it's the same issue I had.
