BMW i4 Wiper System Failure: Diagnosis & Help Needed

Help needed: BMW i4 (2021) wiper system completely dead Got a bit nervous after my last mechanic visit went south. My i4's wipers are totally dead, both manual and auto functions aren't working at all. The car's throwing an error code too. Initially thought it might be the wiper relay. Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's dealt with similar symptoms, especially on the i4. Car's done about 154,841 km. Anyone know a solution or have advice on what to watch out for at the garage? Getting kind of urgent with the weather lately.

I faced a similar issue with my BMW iX3 (2023). After a complete wiper failure, the diagnostic showed it was a faulty connection in the wiring harness near the motor. The cable insulation had worn down, causing intermittent connection issues and eventually complete failure. Got it checked at the garage and they found corroded terminals at the wiper motor plug. The mechanic had to replace the entire wiring harness and the motor connector. While not a severe mechanical issue, it required careful diagnostic work to pinpoint the exact problem. The repair was pretty straightforward once they identified the issue. The symptoms were exactly like yours, complete wiper failure, both auto and manual, with an error code showing up. Worth checking the connections first before assuming it's the motor or relay. Make sure they inspect the wiring harness thoroughly, as these issues can be tricky to spot without proper testing.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, that's really helpful! I'll definitely have them take a close look at the wiring harness and connections. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working fine since they fixed it? Just want to make sure I won't run into any other surprises after getting it sorted.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your questions. Since getting my iX3 fixed, everything's been working perfectly, not a single problem with the wipers. The mechanic found it was indeed a faulty relay, though my case was a bit different from what I initially thought with the wiring harness. The actual fix was pretty straightforward, they just had to sort out a dodgy cable connection to the relay component. Ended up costing me 95 € all in, which wasn't too bad considering I was worried it might be something more serious! Must say, I'm pretty relieved it turned out to be such a simple fix. Been running like a charm for months now, through all sorts of weather. If your symptoms are similar, might be worth checking the relay first, could save you some time and money. These BMWs are generally pretty solid, but sometimes it's these little electrical gremlins that catch you out!

Thanks for the update! Just got back from the mechanic today and thought I'd close the loop. Turns out it was exactly what you mentioned, a faulty relay with some worn-out connections. The repair was actually pretty reasonable, around the same price range as yours. Really relieved it wasn't anything major! The mechanic was great, showed me the old relay and explained everything. Fixed it within a couple of hours, and now the wipers are working perfectly again. You were right about these electrical issues being tricky but manageable. Definitely learned my lesson about getting these things checked out early before they become bigger problems. Thanks again for all your help, really made me feel better about taking it in!
