BMW i5 Battery Warning & Starting Issues, Help Needed

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2024 BMW i5. The battery warning light is on, and the car's struggling to start. Getting undervoltage errors in the system. I suspect it might be related to Terminal 30 continuous plus, but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar electrical issues in their i5? Would love to know what your mechanic found and how they fixed it. Thanks in advance.

Hey! I have some experience with EVs and went through something very similar with my 2022 BMW iX. The symptoms were nearly identical, warning lights, startup issues, and voltage problems. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it as a severely discharged/faulty battery unit. They had to do a deep diagnostic scan and ended up replacing some battery modules. The whole thing cost me around 290 Euro, but it's been running perfectly since then. Before you head to the shop though, could you share some more details about your i5? Like when did these symptoms start, and have you noticed any other electrical issues (climate control, infotainment system acting up)? This info would help compare if it's the same problem I faced. From my experience with both the iX and generally with BMW EVs, these symptoms shouldn't be ignored. Best to get it checked soon before it potentially leaves you stranded somewhere.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My i5 just hit 55453 KM and had its latest service about a month ago. The symptoms started appearing last week, climate control is working fine, but the infotainment system occasionally freezes. Really appreciate the heads up about the battery modules. I've noticed the range has been a bit unpredictable lately too, which might be related. I'll get it checked out at the workshop ASAP. Better safe than sorry, especially with these high-tech EVs. Did your warranty cover any of the repair costs?

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your i5. Yeah, that infotainment freezing issue definitely rings a bell, had the same thing happen with my iX before the battery problems got worse. In my case, the warranty actually covered most of the repair costs since my iX was still under the basic warranty. I just had to pay a small diagnostic fee. With your i5 being a 2024 model, you should definitely be covered under warranty, make sure to bring that up when you take it in. The unpredictable range you mentioned is another red flag, that's exactly what happened with mine before the battery modules needed replacing. After the fix, my range went back to normal and the infotainment stopped acting up completely. Quick tip from my experience, try to document when these issues occur (like after long parking periods or specific weather conditions). The techs found this info super helpful when diagnosing my iX. Keep me posted on what the workshop finds. Really curious to know if it's the same battery module issue I had. These new EVs are amazing when they work right, but when electrical gremlins show up, it's best to tackle them early.

Thank you so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful about documenting the issues, I've started keeping track and noticed it's definitely worse after the car sits for a couple of days. I called the workshop and got an appointment for tomorrow morning. You're right about the warranty, just checked and I'm fully covered. Such a relief! I'll bring up those battery modules you mentioned and see what they say. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's been super helpful having someone who's gone through the same thing. I'll definitely update the thread once I know what's going on with my i5. These EVs are amazing pieces of tech, but they sure can be mysterious when things go wrong! Thanks again for all the advice. At least I know I'm not dealing with some weird, one-off issue. Will keep you posted on what they find!
