BMW i5 Light Switch Issues, Anyone Found a Fix?
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2024 BMW i5 experiencing lighting control issues, specifically with the low beam staying on permanently and the inability to control lights through the switch. The problem is suspected to be related to the light switch module. A similar issue with a BMW i4 was resolved by addressing a faulty connection in the light switch module wiring harness. The suggested solution is to check for loose connections, especially since the car is under warranty and recently serviced, making it likely a simple fix rather than a full module replacement.

Thanks so much for the detailed response! My i5 has only done 16780 KM and was last serviced 2 months ago. Good to know it might just be a loose connection, that's way better than needing a full module replacement! No other electrical issues that I've noticed. The problem started just yesterday while driving at night. Getting a "Check Control Message" for exterior lighting malfunction, but no other warnings. Given it's a brand new car, I'm hoping it's something simple like in your case. Think I'll get it checked at the dealership since it's still under warranty. Thanks for sharing your experience, really helpful to know what to expect!

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up on your i5. You know what, hearing about your mileage and recent service actually makes me think it might be even simpler than what I experienced with my i4. Since it started so suddenly and you're not seeing any other electrical quirks, I'm even more convinced it's just a connection issue. When I had my problem, it gradually got worse over a few days before the lights got stuck completely. The fact yours happened all at once actually makes me more optimistic it's just a loose connector that maybe wasn't seated properly during that service two months ago. Definitely smart to take it to the dealership while it's under warranty. Would love to hear what they find, might help other owners if they run into the same thing. My best guess is they'll find and fix it pretty quickly since these newer models are pretty good at pinpointing exactly where the fault is. Quick tip though, make sure to mention that error code when you take it in. Saved me some diagnostic time when I had my issue. Keep us posted on what they find!

Thanks so much for all the advice and sharing your experience! You've actually made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. It's really reassuring to hear that sudden issues like this might actually be easier to fix than gradual ones. I've got my dealership appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning, and I've made notes about everything you mentioned, including that error code. I was honestly dreading a major repair bill or some complicated module replacement, so knowing it could just be a connection issue from the recent service is such a relief. I'll definitely update the thread once I get it sorted, seems like these kinds of issues are worth documenting for other i5 owners. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and tips. Fingers crossed it's as straightforward as your i4 repair was! Will let you know how it goes.

Hey there! I have some experience with EVs and had a similar issue with my 2022 BMW i4 (my second BMW after the iX). I totally feel your pain with those lighting gremlins! Had the exact same symptoms, stuck low beams and dead light controls. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out it was just a faulty connection in the light switch module wiring harness. The cables had worked loose over time. Cost me 95 Euro for the repair, they basically had to reseat and secure the connections properly. Before you head to the shop though, could you share: Have you noticed any other electrical glitches? When did this start happening? Are you getting any specific error messages on the dash? This might help nail down if you're dealing with the same issue I had or something else.
