BMW i8 Jerking, Smoking and Stalling, Urgent Help Needed

Hi everyone! Need some advice about my 2014 BMW i8 Hybrid (140,211 KM). Having some serious issues lately, car jerks while driving, burns more fuel than usual, and I'm seeing smoke under heavy acceleration. Engine also feels weak and sometimes stalls at idle. Last mechanic visit wasn't great, but I suspect it might be the injection system. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms with their i8? Any recommendations for getting this properly diagnosed and fixed? Really want to avoid major engine damage. Thanks in advance!

As a 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 owner, I've dealt with similar symptoms. The jerking, excessive fuel consumption, and smoke you're describing matches what I experienced when my fuel injector connectors were failing. Had my car at the garage just last month. The diagnosis revealed corroded wiring harness connectors at two injectors, causing inconsistent fuel delivery. The stalling issue was also tied to this. They had to replace the entire injection wiring harness and two injectors. This is actually a serious issue that can lead to cylinder misfires and potential engine damage if left unchecked. Getting it properly diagnosed with a BMW-specific diagnostic tool is crucial. Good thing I caught it early, my mechanic said it could have caused much bigger problems. My suggestion is to have a certified BMW technician check the injection system connections and wiring harness. The symptoms you're describing are too similar to ignore.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My symptoms sound exactly like what you went through with your ActiveHybrid. I already booked an appointment to have it checked properly this time. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repairs? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues popping up? Been a bit worried about potential long-term effects.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up about my ActiveHybrid repair costs. I actually got lucky, it turned out to be much simpler than my initial repair. The mechanic found it was just a faulty cable connection to the injection system, which they fixed for only 95€. Since getting it sorted, the car's been running like a dream, no more jerking, smoke, or excessive fuel consumption. I'm really relieved it wasn't something more serious like when they had to replace my entire wiring harness. All those worrying symptoms completely disappeared after the fix. Trust me, getting it checked was the right move. Sometimes these hybrid systems can be tricky, but catching issues early usually means simpler, cheaper repairs. Honestly, the peace of mind knowing it's properly fixed was worth every penny. Let me know how your appointment goes, curious to hear if it's the same issue!

Thanks for the update, that's really reassuring! Just got back from the mechanic actually, and wow, what a relief! Turns out my issue was pretty similar. They found two damaged connectors in the fuel injection system that were causing all those problems. Cost me about €200 for the repair, which honestly feels like a bargain considering how worried I was. Took it for a test drive after the fix, and what a difference! No more jerking, smoke's gone, and the engine feels strong again. Fuel consumption is back to normal too. The mechanic mentioned I caught it just in time before it could cause any serious damage. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it helped me understand what I was dealing with and gave me the push to get it checked out properly. My i8's running like new again, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome!
