Thanks for the detailed breakdown! Just got back from the mechanic myself, what a relief! Found a certified specialist who really knew their stuff. The whole carbon deposit cleanup, plus replacing a couple of worn-out parts, came to about 550 €. Bit more than yours, but my i8 had quite a bit of buildup. You should've seen my face when I first drove it after the fix, felt like a completely different car! No more knocking, smoke's gone, and that jerky acceleration is history. The mechanic was super thorough, even showed me the gunked-up parts they cleaned out. Pretty wild how much crud can build up in there. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me bite the bullet and get it sorted before things got worse. These hybrids might be complex, but when they're running right, there's nothing quite like them. Guess I'll be sticking with this specialist from now on!

Thanks for sharing your experience, that's really helpful! My i8's symptoms do sound pretty similar to what you went through. By the way, any chance you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? Just want to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and whether this fully solved the issue.
